Music from the Gents: Charles Perry Sprawls (video 4/5) Frances Allitsen was an English singer, teacher, and composer active in the second half of the 19th century. A noted mezzo-soprano soloist, she turned to teaching after vocal issues forced her to retire from singing. She composed well over fifty art songs, as well as orchestral, chamber, and piano works. Its vivid i...magery evokes England during the industrial revolution, and its inspiration is an apocryphal story of Jesus visiting what is now England as a young man.
