Music from the Gents: Charles Perry Sprawls (Song 3 of 5). Jerusalem, by Sir Charles Hubert Hastings Parry, is a setting of a poem by William Blake. Its vivid i...magery evokes England during the industrial revolution, and its inspiration is an apocryphal story of Jesus visiting what is now England as a young man. It gained much popularity as a patriotic hymn, invoking inspiration and hope to a nation reeling from the devastation of the First World War. https://youtu.be/7JqBZ3H90cw
