The Gordon H. Adams garage, located at 165 Center St., was listed in the Salamanca Directory from 1943 thru 1953. I couldn't find reference to the Stewart Warner business. Dominica Oliverio was listed as the owner of a restaurant at 181 Center St.. That location became the Riverview bar and restaurant according to the 53' directory!

Located at 582 East State St., Stark's Meat Market is located on the left of building. The market was owned by Howard and Lillian Stark. On the right side was a grocery store, Touro Groceries, and was owned by Carl and Ruth Touro. The picture was taken sometime around the early 1900's. The Touro family resided above the store. The 1965 Salamanca phone directory lists Quality Market as being located on this site. Sometime between 84' and 85', Fuller's Corner Store was located there. I remember them having really great subs! In 2006 the East State St. building became Salamanca Fitness and is owned by James Nye and Rose White. If "walls could talk", I'm sure this building might have a few stories to tell!

Seitz Clothing Store, established in 1887, was located at 67 Main St., (which, in more recent years) was the location between Mason's and the Texas Hot. August Seitz was the proprietor. his clerks were James Casey, Fred Seitz, Benjamin Kelly and William Mentz. (Not order of men in picture.)

The Torge building, built in 1897 is now nothing more than a massive pile of old bricks resting on the corner of River St. and Main St. A photo printed by the Salamanca Press shows the beginning of the demolition of the abandoned building. The articles taken from our Krieger scrapbooks tell of the plans for erecting the Torge building and of the early merchants of that once occupied the space.

This is a great picture of the Andrews Theater and Nelson's Restaurant that once belonged to Bert Pierce of the Salamanca Pennysaver. It was donated to us by Jack Haley. "In Old Chicago" was released in 1938 and starred Tyrone Powers, Alice Faye and Don Ameche.
