A New Year and a New Volunteer! Meet our newest volunteer Kelcey who joined us for the first time to prepare take out meals today. For some time now Kelcey has been wanting to give back to the community in any way that she could and thought volunteering at the center would be a perfect way to start the new year. During COVID-19 we have a limited number of volunteer opportunities available each day at the center. For the safety of our guests, volunteers, and staff we follow health and safety criteria for all who currently volunteer. Weekend volunteers are always needed. The past year has been like no other. It's been a year of strength, change and adaptation. It has left a lasting impact on our lives and the lives of those we serve. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, friendship and support during this unpredictable time. This week our buddy Spud had a chance to help distribute basic need items to our guests during Thursday meal time. Since switching to a to-go meal service, 73% of our guests have needed hygiene supplies. Large size shampoo and toilet paper are two of the most requested items. As the weather begins to change, we will begin accepting new or gently used coats. We are in greatest need of larger sized men’s coats but grateful for any that are practical and will keep our guests warm and dry. At this time we are also accepting new or gently used hats, gloves, scarves, and boots to share with our guests too. Donations can be dropped off Monday - Friday 9am - 12pm Your warmth of kindness is appreciated!

When canned food items are donated to the center we share any extras with our guests. Many times our guests ask if we have any can openers to open these canned goods. Currently we are running low on our supply of hand held can openers and donations are greatly appreciated. A big smile of thanks for your consideration! CROP Hunger Walks are held in over 800 communities, including Syracuse. Just over 100,000 walkers, supporting 1,670 food banks, soup kitchens and food pantries and raising over $7.6 million to help end hunger. Our Samaritan Center volunteers are the SWEETEST bunch and we could not do what we do without them by our side. Flu Season is here! On Tuesday, September 29th a representative from Walgreens will be at the Samaritan Center during our breakfast and dinner meal services providing flu shots for our guests.
