This month's film from Remy Styrk is titled "Clockwise." Remy is a former Sandblast intern and now freelance Sandblast composer, making a short film every month as a way to be more vocal and open about mental health for people his age. From Remy: "my childhood bathtub. the size of a singular line in my fingerprint; with the gravitational pull of a black hole. i plan the funeral of younger me in the bathtub. for one last time, i will relive the same sense of adventure the tub gave me. what is lost in this process will bring closure, not emptiness. when all is done, the water will turn clockwise." Last month's film from Remy Styrk is titled "From Here and Back; Residual." Remy is a former Sandblast intern and now freelance Sandblast composer, making a short film every month as a way to be more vocal and open about mental health for people his age. From Remy: "I have very little memory of my parents’ relationship; only pictures and the interactions between my dad and the things of my mom’s he’s kept. The image of them composed of storytelling, mannerisms, and attachment. The memory of them is a tape loop; very dense and repetitively patterned, yet each time it comes around I feel renewed." This month's film from Remy Styrk is titled "The Smell of Burning." Remy is a former Sandblast intern and now freelance Sandblast composer, making a short film every month as a way to be more vocal and open about mental health for people his age. From Remy: I see my mom everywhere I go, in everything I do, and in everything I want to accomplish, but she is always just out of reach. I am entangled in her memory, and the memories of those she inspired. My memory of my mom is more of a protective energy than a face. the feeling of her arms, her voice, and her security." Brilliantly directed and produced by bassist Adam Kahan, our own Mike Ungar was instrumental in bringing "From Bass to Infinity" to fruition. Buster Williams is not only a jazz legend but an incredibly kind and generous person. His unique perspective and interaction with the musical greats with whom he converses and plays tells a memorable story of what it takes to be the backbone of a group. Now available on various platforms we highly recommend this film to everyone intere...sted in the creative process and how it manifests itself over decades of experience. Some films come and go, but some stay with you and "From Bass to Infinity" was one of those. It was an honor to work on it.
