In support of President Biden’s goal for 70% of adult Americans to receive their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by the Fourth of July, Sarah Lawrence is joining the The White House, Dept. of Education, and colleges across the nation in the COVID College Challenge. Together, we'll help members of the community learn more about the vaccines for COVID-19 and encourage them to make a plan to get vaccinated. Already a large number of SLC students, faculty, and staff are vacci...nated and that number climbs higher every week, vastly exceeding the averages for New York and the country. The vaccines are safe and effective and getting vaccinated as soon as you are able will help save lives and end the pandemic. Congratulations to our undergraduate and graduate class of 2021! In the words of commencement speaker Congressman Jamaal Bowman: "I hope you will find ways to look around you and ask: what brilliance lies in the communities around you that hasn’t been realized yet or hasn’t been heard? How can you draw that out, be encouraging and supportive and curious and collaborative with your fellow humansnot just at a personal level, but in ways that can reach your whole communities, y...our country, and your world. "All of you are brilliant in your own ways. I invite you and encourage you to find your path in a way that always uplifts others so that we can build that shared vision of humanity and peace for all. Let’s move forward with love. You all will go into the world and become agents of justice, freedom, and liberation. Own that power. Unleash that force through your talents and passions." Congratulations, undergraduate class of 2021! "Your ability to make a path, to collaborate with others to connect your passions to create your futureand to be nimble enough to recreate itis an extraordinary opportunity, experience, and accomplishment that very few college students are privileged to have. Here’s what I hope you will hold on to from that: inventing yourself with the assistance of your don and others has given you the foundation and the ability to continue to adapt and reinvent yourself in the face of rapid, often unpredictable change." - President Cristle Collins Judd To watch the undergraduate ceremony and see photos from today: sarahlawrence.edu/ug-commencement

Senior Asavari Sharma, who is currently participating in the Intensive Semester in Yonkers program, recently guest hosted the ArtsWestchester "Sewing Community" podcast, connecting with Yonkers resident (and mother of an SLC graduate) Haifa Bint-Kadi, a Palestinian-American public mosaic artist and educator. Their conversation explores the power of embroidery for Palestinian women, the connection between textiles, labor and sustainability, and Haifa's love of repetition in art. https://open.spotify.com/episode/4Y3Tzk0i3ua3iAvctpaGKg

"[Writing faculty Vijay] Seshadri’s poems are testily smart, often funny, conceptually intricate... Seshadri’s latest book his fifth, and his first since he won the Pulitzer for '3 Sections' in 2014 is called 'That Was Now, This Is Then.' "He’s a poet who mesmerizes not by stillness but by zigs and zags, and he very much wants to take the reader with him as he island hops from idea to idea."
