It has been a long hard road, and I honestly have had nothing to say or to share with the members of the club. Marsha Chavin and I have worked my horses all though Covid, and they are doing great, but we haven’t hitched Lily Dale yet, because we wanted a stretch of nice days. In the meantime, there are lots of other things around the horses to do as we slowly come back to normal life. I thought folks would enjoy hearing about Lyn Howard and Jack Alexander, who are such promin...ent members of the Saratoga Driving Association. Lyn decided that she was retiring from driving and they decided to sell their farm, where we have held many Twelfth Night Parties. They moved to an apartment in Troy which frankly struck me as a crazy idea. I participated in getting much of her driving equipment sold or donated to appropriate people, and that left her trailer to be sold. Many of you have inquired about the trailer so let me add that it went this weekend. A 15 year old boy from Allentown, PA bought it to show cattle. He was absolutely darling, saved his money, promised to be an indentured servant to his parents until it was paid off, and got his mother to drive him up. They had a 3 week old one ton pickup with an eight food bed looked like a limo and we got it all attached and the mom, that barely could drive the truck and never drove a 20 foot trailer drove away. They made it home after stopping to pick up calves the boy had bought. It was amazing and Lyn got her price. So I dropped off all the stuff from inside the trailer, that is still in there until the last minute when someone else is driving it away and I got to see the new place. It is gorgeous and I wanted to share some photos with you all. It is an old building right in the middle of Troy by the Troy Music Hall and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, that has all the Tiffany stained glass windows. The windows are huge and it is well lit with views of RPI and sun pouring in at different spots as the day goes on. I thought that those of you that have seen Lyn’s old place would marvel at how similar, but different it is. Lyn’s comment, as the trailer left, was that getting rid of all this opens you to doing other things, like maybe we’ll go camping. The elegant apartment had a room by the entrance of all sorts of outside gear, so I have no doubt Lyn and Jack will continue their adventures. There is still a Kuhnle carriage for a pony up to 12 h for sale. Who knows?

WAUW!

Camden Lock Market in London was originally the site of stabling for hundreds of working horses - many of the stables, saddleries, tack rooms, the Pickford Hors...e Hospital and other horse businesses being underground in tunnels. Farriers were always busy there, and had forges set up. Injured horses were brought to the hospital by canal. Busy Regent's Canal meant a lot of working horses were needed to take goods to the railway station. The place also became a thriving market from 1854. It's still a market - known as The Stables and The Horse Tunnel Market. The last horse retired in 1967. To commemorate the horses, two giant horse heads and a big stallion in bronze were installed, as well as 16 life-size horses, in the 1980's. Popular as a wonderful drawcard - but development sadly meant the statues were sold off in 2014 to private collections. Over 100,000 people visit the market every weekend.
