Cupping Cupping has been used for thousands of years to treat health problems caused by stagnant blood and poor circulation throughout the body, such as pain related conditions, muscle tension and congestion. It is a therapeutic technique that involves applying rounded inverted cups to parts of the body using a vacuum effect. They are typically made of glass, bamboo, earthen ware or silicone. This Increases blood flow to the area, relieves muscle tension and promotes relaxat...ion. Cupping is often combined with an acupuncture treatment and tai na massage. If you have any questions or would like to set an appointment for cupping please send a message or contact Saratoga Acupuncture at (518)306-1207
Spring is here! In connection to Chinese medicine, the element for Spring is wood and the paired organ is our liver. You can support your body and liver during this time by choosing to eat more cleansing foods that promote detoxification in your diet. For example, fresh leafy greens, fruits and healthy oils. Also recommended to cut back on alcohol intake, starchy foods and sugar. ... Spring season is associated with renewal and moving forward. This is a good time to finish or set new goals and to increase movement, and stretching.

Before/After treatment Many people aren’t sure how to prepare for an acupuncture treatment or what they should do afterward. Here are some recommended tips to make to most of your appointment. Before... * Avoid scheduling before or after having to do something strenuous * Check to see that all necessary forms are filled out. * Eat a light snack or meal. If you go on an empty stomach you may leave feeling lightheaded or physically depleted. * Avoid coffee or alcohol * Acupuncture is a relaxing experience. Wear comfortable and loose clothing if you can help it. This allows for easier access to your knees or elbows. If you have neck or upper back pain, for instance, wear a tank top. Wear layers if it’s cold out. * Turn off or silence your cell phone. Less distracting and this is your time. After * Resuming normal activities or going back to work is alright. Know that you may feel a little more relaxed than usual. * Allow yourself to relax and get adequate rest. If you exercise keep it light and don’t overexert yourself. * Drink plenty of water. The body releases toxins that need to be flushed out and hydration is important. Avoid alcohol and coffee as they dehydrate the body. * Be mindful of what you eat. What you eat also removes toxins from your body. Instead of consuming foods that reintroduce toxins, you can choose whole, natural foods. Avoid fast foods and junk. * Do not use ice after treatment. Wait a few hours after if used at all. Cold contracts and slows circulation down which can impede the natural healing process. * If there are any questions or concerns after your appointment let your acupuncturist know

TCM in Winter Thinking of how we can continue to take better care of ourselves while kicking off the new year... Ancient Chinese understood that we live in harmony with the natural cycles of our environment. They were aware of how each changing season had a direct effect on our health and way of being. This alignment helped people stay healthy and ward of disease throughout the year.... Winter is Yin in nature; it is cold, dark, and damp. This is the opposite of summer, the most Yang time of year, which represents light, hot, and increased energy. It is the concentrated, internal force of winter that enables a seed to burst forth in spring growth. Winter Associations in Chinese Medicine Element: Water Nature: Yin Organs: Yin- Kidney, Yang- Urinary Bladder Sense organ: Ears Flavor: Salty, Bitter Emotion: Fear and Depression Color: Black This is a good time of year to reflect on our health, look inward, slow down, and replenish our energy by enriching yin. Tips to stay healthy this winter: -Avoid eating raw foods, as they tend to cool the body and take more energy to digest. -Tonify and nourish the body by eating more warming, cooked foods such as soups, stews, garlic, ginger, and drinking tea and bone broth. -Rest, allow yourself to get more sleep -Reduce stress, practice meditation, mindfulness, and self-awareness -Still good to move! Recommend stretching, yoga, Tai chi, and qi gong

Nervous about needles? This is common for people before trying acupuncture. They are actually hair-thin and it shouldn’t really hurt. You may feel a sensation such as warmth or cooling, tingling or a pressure at the area of insertion. Some people even fall asleep! I make sure everyone is completely comfortable during treatment and explain everything as we go. ... There are other modalities available you can try as well, such as acupressure, gua sha, cupping and moxibustion, which is a type of heat therapy. Please let me know if you have any questions : )

Saratoga Acupuncture will be coming soon!!! Opening day is in the works and will keep posted when that will be. Since moving here from the Utica area I have loved exploring what Saratoga Springs has to offer and the surrounding areas. I am very excited to be working again with individuals and within the community.
In light of the current situation with the covid-19 pandemic Utica Acupuncture is closing after much thought and consideration. Want to also announce that I am moving to Saratoga, NY and plan on continuing to practice Acupuncture. Will keep updated as to where that will be in the future. THANK YOU for your ongoing support. It's been an absolute pleasure working out of From The Heart Holistics . I will miss everyone and the community. Hope that everyone stays safe, mindful and well. - Much love & light

"What the heck does that point do?"... Bai Hui aka "Hundred Convergences," is located at the top of the head. Can be used to help treat dizziness, prolapse & insomnia. It clears the mind, calms the spirit and supports Yang.
