"Thanksgiving is almost here! Did you know Thanksgiving Day is the top day for home fires? We want all residents to have a safe + healthy holiday. Stay in the kitchen when you're cooking on the so you can keep an eye on the food. Avoid wearing loose clothing or dangling sleeves while cooking.... Keep children away from a hot stove and liquids .The steam or splash from vegetables, gravy or coffee could cause serious burns. Turn pot handles to the back of the stove, so no one bumps them or pulls them over. Move items that can burn away from the stove. These include towels, bags, boxes, paper and curtains. Keep a fire extinguisher nearby. If a small fire sparks, call 911. Do not use water to try to extinguish a grease fire smother the flame with baking soda or the fire extinguisher instead. Water will only cause the fire to spread faster. Check the kitchen before going to bed or leaving home to ensure all stoves, ovens and small appliances are turned off. Make sure your smoke alarms are working. Test them by pushing the test button"
