Across Long Island and New York State we have been reviewing many reports after residential fires that the home owners didn’t recall being alerted by smoke detectors or just did not hear them. It is important to check your smoke detectors every month. Click on the video link to learn more about smoke detectors and smoke detector safety. https://youtu.be/ZMIHE7UeFTU
Memorial Day is one of the most significant and beautiful occasions of the year. It shows the sentiment of the people toward those who gave their lives for a good cause, and it teaches a lesson in patriotism which is without a parallel. Happy Memorial Day and thank you to all veterans who served and sacrificed their life to protect the United States of America.

Today, members of the Sayville Fire Department joined many community groups from Sayville and Bayport to clean and honor the grave stones from our departed Military Personnel who fought bravely for our country. We would like to thank our active and retired military personnel for all that they do for our great country!
With the frigid cold weather upon us, please follow these tips to prevent your water pipes from freezing. If you have a frozen pipe, call a professional to assist you.
No Ice is Safe Ice As the weather gets colder, we will start to notice our lakes and ponds freezing over. We ask that you follow the proper safety guidelines if you choose to walk or ice skate. Every year, we train to improve our Ice Water rescue techniques to be prepared if we are called to an ice water rescue incident. Please be safe!
Today is the day!!! Santa is coming to town!! He will start his journey through Sayville at 3:30pm. We will be sending a link before Santa takes off to follow his location. Stay tuned to this Facebook post!
Today, the Sayville Fire Department kicked off the New Year with their first drill of the year.
With the news of a possible winter storm with significant snowfall over the next few days, the Sayville Fire Department ask the residents for assistance with clearing a path for hydrants. Unfortunately, there are a lot of fire hydrants around town and we will be unable to get to all of them. Of course, responding firefighters have shovels on hand to dig out hydrants during fire emergencies and dispatchers have information on hydrant location. But where minutes count during... a fire, precious time will be lost finding the precise location of the hydrant and digging it out. Sayville Fire Department Assistant Chief Gene Giacoia asks residents when you shovel your driveway, if there is a hydrant near your home, or business please shovel it out so it is visible for us. A two feet clearing around the hydrant will give firefighters enough room to quickly hook up their hoses and get water on the fire quickly should they be called to a fire under these conditions. Last night, the Sayville Fire Department completed another successful trek through Sayville with the one and only Santa Claus. We apologize if we missed some areas, Santa noted it in his book and we will make sure we pass through next year. We would like to recognize Lieutenant John Covias for organizing the Santa ride and planning an extra special surprise for a Sayville Family in need and showering them with early Christmas presents!
The Officers and Members of the Sayville Fire Department would like to wish everyone a very Happy & Healthy Thanksgiving. Please follow the proper safety tips while cooking your Thanksgiving Turkey!! https://www.newsday.com//deep-fried-turkey-safety-thanksgi
"Thanksgiving is almost here! Did you know Thanksgiving Day is the top day for home fires? We want all residents to have a safe + healthy holiday. Stay in the kitchen when you're cooking on the so you can keep an eye on the food. Avoid wearing loose clothing or dangling sleeves while cooking.... Keep children away from a hot stove and liquids .The steam or splash from vegetables, gravy or coffee could cause serious burns. Turn pot handles to the back of the stove, so no one bumps them or pulls them over. Move items that can burn away from the stove. These include towels, bags, boxes, paper and curtains. Keep a fire extinguisher nearby. If a small fire sparks, call 911. Do not use water to try to extinguish a grease fire smother the flame with baking soda or the fire extinguisher instead. Water will only cause the fire to spread faster. Check the kitchen before going to bed or leaving home to ensure all stoves, ovens and small appliances are turned off. Make sure your smoke alarms are working. Test them by pushing the test button"
