Happy Pride Month! LGBTQ+ Pride Month is celebrated annually every June as a tribute to those involved in the Stonewall Uprising of 1969 as well as to honor the determination and resilience of the many people who fought and are continuing to fight for freedom. For Pride Month, we would like to highlight Hieu Minh Nguyen, a queer Vietnamese American poet and share a poem of his to reflect on. Additionally, we would like to spotlight a Vietnamese LGBTQ+ movie, Goodbye Mother, that explores the social and family standards of Vietnam. Watch the trailer here! https://www.youtube.com/watch
Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19, has now become a federal holiday! Today is a celebration of the freedom of African Americans as well as a reflection of their history and resilience. While the recognition of Juneteenth as a national holiday calls for celebration, there is still work to do for racial justice. Please consider supporting organizations that foster our understanding of the holiday and the accomplishments of the African American community. #juneteenth #sbuvsa #stonybrookvsa #freedom #juneteenth2021
VSA had a weekend getaway trip last week to upstate NY in Jewett . There, we went hiking to Kaaterskill Falls, tuned in for Northeast UVSA Banquet , had a water balloon fight , and walked along the Windham trail , topped off with some unforgettable nights ! It was a great way to get in some cabinet bonding and end off the school year (though a little belated )! **all members are vaccinated and were tested before the trip!** #sbuvsa #stonybrookvsa #stonyvsa #vsaallday

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month takes place during the month of May and focuses on the celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander influence and contributions. With the heartbreaking surge of violence against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, it is important to work towards the building of cross-racial solidarity to condemn hate as well as to support the contributions of the AAPI community. We would like to share some Asian Tiktokers to check out and support when you get the chance! #appihm #sbuvsa #stonybrookvsa #stonyvsa #vsa #stopaapihate
