Norman W. Myers Sr. GOWANDA Norman W. Myers Sr. Age 88 of Maple Ave. passed away Friday evening November 13, 2020 at the Buffalo General Hospital Buffalo , N.Y surrounded by family. Norman was born February 28, 1932 in Buffalo , NY the son of John and Laura ( Jainer ) Myers. A self employed carpenter Norman belonged to the Carpenters Union in Buffalo. Norm was also a Merchant Marine working on ships in the Great Lakes during the 1950’s , he was a member of the Immanuel Luth...eran Church in Gowanda and the NRA. Survivors include 3 children ; Norman Myers Jr. of Gowanda, Tammy ( Bruce) Levine of Atlanta, Ga. and Craig Myers of Gowanda. Grandchildren Justin, Nicole, Ashley, Nathan and Alexis Myers. Edward R. Austin GOWANDA Edward R. Austin age 65 of Aldrich St. Passed away unexpectedly at the Bertrand Chaffee Emergency Room in Springville Monday evening October 19, 2020. Born in Emporium, Pa June 26, 1955 the son of the late Robert L. Austin and Dorothy ( Kline) Schoos. An artist Ed and his wife Cathy owned and operated Cathy’s Crafts of Gowanda , they contracted with WNYDDSO on various art projects for the state and through the states Day Hab programs . Ed was recogn...ized and given citations for his artistic contributions he had made through the various Day Hab sites. He painted murals for several of the Day Hab locations including Dunkirk, Fredonia , Perrysburg and Little Valley. Ed was also a highly artistic and talented wood carver, he loved to oil paint animals and work in his yard , he was a member of the Collins Art Club . Edward married the former Catherine A. Bridges on April 12, 1973 in Gowanda. Catherine survives. Besides his loving wife of 47 years Ed is survived by a son Victor L. Austin of Gowanda a sister Linda Blakely of Gowanda , a brother Terry ( Leanne) Austin of Randolph along with several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews . Besides his parents Edward was preceded in death by a daughter Jada A. Austin 2 sisters; Bonnie Emery and Delma Ellis . A brother; Dale Austin . At Edwards request there will be no prior visitation and the family will have a private burial in Smith Mills Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to his daughter Jada. Britt age 61 passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening November 12, 2020 at home . Born in Gowanda April 24, 1959 the son of Lester and Muriel ( Maloney ) Britt. Patrick graduated from Gowanda Central, Class of ‘ 77. He worked for WNYDDSO as a Developmental Aid , at the time of his retirement he worked at the Cottage residence . Survivors include twin daughters ; Alicia ( Earl) Farina of North Collins and Amber ( Paul ) Hurley of Dunkirk. Grandchildren ; Morgan Hurley, Myles and Oliver Farina. Patrick is also survived by a brother ; James Britt Sr. of Collins Center , a sister Cindy Pate of Hawaii along with a niece Ashley Britt of Collins Center and a nephew James Britt Jr. of Dallas, Tx. Cookie Sweda age 82 formerly of Gowanda passed away Saturday evening November 7, 2020 at the Heritage Green Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility in the Town of Ellery surrounded by family on what would have been his late brother Joseph’s 76th birthday . Joey passed away while serving in the Vietnam War in 1965. Edward was born October 11, 1938 in Gowanda the son of Edward and Frances ( Cygan) Sweda . He was a Machinist with Moog In...c. In East Aurora and retired after 45 years. Ed was a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Gowanda , he enjoyed playing cards with his wife the former Carol A. Kaye, who survives . He was a dedicated Corvette enthusiast and also collected model trains . Ed was a craft carpenter who enjoyed 50’s music and the Buffalo Bills . Surviving with Carol is a brother Richard Rip Sweda of Gowanda his sister in law Barbara ( Norbert) Schneider of North Port , Fla; his children : Michael ( Shellie) Sweda of Los Angeles Calif. , Jonalyn ( Kevin) Cooper of Greene, N.Y. , Lynda ( Phillip) Walters of Gerry, N. Y. Amanda( Tim) McCoyd of Orlando, Fla.and step daughter Tina ( Donald) Gebauer of Arcade, N. Y. ; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren along with nieces and nephews also survive . Joana worked for WNYDDSO for more than 30 years , at the time of her retirement she worked out of the Dana Dr. group home . Joana was involved with many of the programs offered at the LK Painter Center in Collins and was of Roman Catholic faith . ... Survivors include 2 sons; Michael ( Kristen) Van Wey and Darrin N. Thomas R. Stelley GOWANDA Thomas R. Stelley of Gowanda passed away unexpectedly Friday October 9, 2020 at home . Tom was 73 years old . Tom loved the outdoors , hunting, riding in his Mustang , his frequent trips to Roy’s Gun Shop and most of all spending time with his family. Tom retired from the Gowanda Central School District in 2006, at the time of his retirement he was Head Custodian . Prior to his school employment he worked as a security/ firearms instructor for The ...West Valley Nuclear Plant in West Valley, NY . Tom also worked with his dad at their family business the former Gowanda Sports Shop during his school years until the business was sold . Survivors include his wife Kathy ( Kaluza) Stelley of 52 years; 2 brothers Ron (Diana) Stelley and Bob ( Mary) Stelley along with their children . Richard fought long and hard until the very end. Born in Gowanda December 22, 1952 the son of Ernest and Vivian ( Harvey) Bromley. A truck driver for the Gernatt Family of Company’s ( Collins) , he retired after more than 20 years of employment . Dick honorably served wit...h the U. S. Army, he enjoyed deer hunting along with repairing and restoring old tractors and lawn equipment with his longtime friend Roger Ivett. Survivors include his wife Janice ( Burek) Putney Bromley , his son Joshua ( Samantha) Bromley of Glenside, Pa. , grandchildren Emma and Mykayla Bromley , his mother Vivian Bromley of Perrysburg, sisters Sharon ( Don) Fancher of Perrysburg , Carol ( Paul Ellis) Bromley of Perrysburg , several nieces and nephews also survive along with his faithful and loving canine companion Chewy . Robert L. Gray PERRYSBURG Robert Louis Gray age 21 died Thursday September 17, 2020, at home. He was born January 23, 1999 in Buffalo, N.Y. . Robert was a 2017 graduate of Randolph Academy through the Gowanda Central School District and attended Jamestown Community College for a semester to pursue a pre- engineering degree. Rob was an encyclopedia of military and Cold War history and an arm chair international statesman who had definitive opinions on the state of the world... and firm ideas on how to fix its problems . He was very witty and had a good ear for impersonations . He enjoyed hiking in the woods , solving mechanical problems , collecting Cold War-era equipment , building scale models , music of many genres, his kitty cats and video gaming . He is survived by his parents David L. and Gayla Gray, and his sister Julia , all of Perrysburg, N. Y. ; a grandmother Charlene Gray of South Hill VA. ; uncle Thomas ( Jenna) of Crewe, VA; aunt Valerie Gray of Wenatchee WA.;uncle Thomas Gross( Lori) of Woodinville, WA; and an aunt Kristine Gross- Squillante( Fred) of Gahanna, Ohio. Born in Gowanda October 30, 1933 the eldest child of Thornton and Leska (Detmer) Utley. A U. S. Veteran Rod served with the United States Navy during the Korean War. Rodney married the former Patricia Pericak August 29, 1953 in the St. Joseph’s RC Church Gowanda , Patricia passed away March 26, 2001. Rodney, a... brick layer/ mason owned and operated Cardinal Refractory a masonry business and was a member of the Bricklayers Local 45 of Buffalo. Rod retired from Bethlehem Steel in Lackawanna . A member of Epiphany of Our Lord Church in Langford, Rod also enjoyed boating and his place at Camp Chautauqua where he spent many summers , he also enjoy all the special times he spent with his loving companion Mary Krajewski . Rod also enjoyed woodworking , puzzles and was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and a long time season ticket holder for the team. Rod also was a member of the Slovenian Club of Gowanda . Surviving besides Mary are his children , Rodney C. Jr( Tamara) Utley of Perrysburg, Philip (Patricia) Utley of Gasport and John (Patricia) Utley of Waxhaw, N.C. 10 grandchildren and 6 great grand children survive . Marlene G. Draegert GOWANDA Marlene G. Draegert age 73 of Jamestown St passed away Sunday July 12, 2020 at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo surrounded by family . Born September 6, 1946 the daughter of Clifton B. Sr. and Leona B. (Lay) Snyder. Survivors include 2 daughters ; Tammy Williams of Gowanda and Theresa (Tim Shearer) Spina of Dunkirk , grandchildren Seana, Nathan, Eric, Rachel, Cody, Mikala and Emmalee. Marlene is also survived by 14 great grandchildren... , a brother Clifton B. Sonny Snyder Jr. Of Gowanda and a sister Donna J. Wilkins also of Gowanda. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Besides her parents Marlene was preceded in death by a grand daughter Adrianna Williams , 2 brothers; Ralph and Roy Snyder along with a sister Margie Snyder. Marilou E. Patterson GOWANDA Marilou E. Patterson age 82 of Park St. Passed away unexpectedly at home Sunday evening July 12, 2020. Born in Gowanda July 3, 1938 the daughter of Leonard and Thelma ( Stewart) Miller. Marilou married Barry M. Patterson in California December 13, 1959. Barry passed away September 1, 2011. ... Marilou retired from the former JNAdam Developmental Center in Perrysburg where she worked as an aide. Always willing to lend a hand, Marilou was an active member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Gowanda where she held various committee and chair positions . Her church family was an integral part of Marilou’s life. Survivors include a son Mark Patterson of Gowanda , along with many friends . As per Marilous request a private burial to take place in the Pine Hill Cemetery Gowanda , there will be a Church Memorial in September depending on the Covid restrictions and mandates at that time .
