Good morning. We normally don't share posts like this, but this involves the Cohoes Visitors Center (our home base) and they're looking for someone who's familiar with Cohoes and its history. So it seemed logical that some of our readers might be interested, or know someone else who's be interested in applying.

You probably know that our 21st president, Chester Arthur taught school in Cohoes before entering politics. But several other presidents also visited Cohoes - all four presidents from Mount Rushmore as well as James Madison, and FDR. Did we miss anyone? Happy Presidents' Day from Spindle City Historic Society

When Chester Arthur ascended to the presidency in 1881, following the death of President Garfield, he didn't have a formal, public inauguration ceremony, although he took the oath of office twice. Arthur was at his brownstone in NYC when word reached him of Garfield's passing. He took the oath of office there, the first time the oath was taken outside the nation's capitol city. Congressional leaders, concerned about the informality of the swearing in, convinced Arthur to r...epeat the ceremony two days later, in Washington, DC, where the oath was administered by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. You never know where you'll find something interesting. I found this on a FB group about a mystery show set in the 1920s. I haven't been able to find much information about the ship yet, other than it sailed under a number of names over the years. A few years later, it was sailing to Palestine, complete with a Kosher kitchen.
