Scipio Springs Dairy

It's NEDPA #MemberMonday! Meet Scipio Springs Dairy, a first generation dairy farm in the heart of Cayuga County, NY. The farm started from a soybean field in ...2002 and is now home to 1,100 cows and 900 heifers and 1,800 acres to tend to. Partners Jon Gilbert and Bill Morgan did not come from dairy farm backgrounds, but share the same passion for the industry. Scipio Springs Dairy is heavily involved in the agriculture industry through groups like Cayuga Marketing, Cayuga Milk Ingredients, NYAAC, NEDPA, and others. Bill serves on the Boards for Cayuga Marketing and Cayuga Milk Ingredients and Jon serves on the NEDPA Board. They pride themselves on doing the right thing by their people, animals, land, and community. Their staff is like family and has participated in integral safety and other trainings for more than 15 years. In 2010, they expanded to a satellite dairy in Adams Center, NY. It is currently home to 700 dairy cows and 500 heifers and counting. Scipio Spring Dairy is proud of their dedicated staff; state of the art, world class milk processing facility, and is excited to be doing their part in making a difference in Cayuga County and all over the world.

We have worked with the New York Growing Project the past few years to raise funds for the Growing Hope Globally organization for programs in Guatemala that help with training, food security, and improved nutrition. This morning we were chopping right behind Cayuga Milk Ingredients. This corn will feed the cows whose milk will go all over the world!

Mason is another one of our seniors. He was born just a few months before we built the dairy and today does a great job feeding some of our cows. Mason graduated from Union Springs and plans to attend SUNY Cortland for Kinesiology: Fitness Development. Congratulations!

Our next senior is Chris. Chris graduated from Union Springs and is attending Alfred State College in the fall. Chris is a hard worker and loves any time spent in a tractor! We send a huge congrats to Chris and his family on a job well done and bright future!

It was a busy weekend for three of our 2020 graduates. First was Jacob who graduated from Southern Cayuga. Jacob plans to attend Rensealear Polytechnical Institute in the fall. He is an important part in our team and we send a big Congratulations to him and his family!
