Today's progress! Main painting on the roof is complete, as well as the front of the facade. Next step that can be seen in the last pic of the roof is running a black wash down to simulate the effect of years of acid rain. I'll then come back in with dabs of white paint for lichen as well as fake moss here and there.
All right, everything has a textured base coat and we're moving on to the real fun. Got some Joe Bob Briggs hosting Re-Animator going... making my way to the home stretch on this build.
I'm starting to paint everything with a flat base coat of exterior latex paint mixed with play sand. I think it really adds to the "stone" feel, even before I do the upcoming washes and dry brushing.
Progress on the mausoleum roof. Everything is getting a thin layer of Drylok before the rest of the latex paint.
Took a break from my own haunting to go to Summer Scream - June 2021 at Frightmare Farms Haunted Scream Park . Since I didn't go to any haunts last year, this made me deliriously happy. Evil warms my heart
Side panels are carved and now I'm working on the roof. I'm gonna put a nice corbel under the skull keystone thingie. I'm going to attempt to carve the top of the roof to look like slate shingles... we'll see how that pans out.
And with just a little bit more detailing, I think the carving portion of the front panel is complete.
This evening's progress.
First pass at the right front side. I think it's coming along.
After days of it being way too humid, I can finally get back to the mausoleum. This is a test piece playing around with textures to figure out what I want. PSA: Most of this is achieved using my hot tools, which I love, but serious fumes happen when using them on foam. I always wear a respirator when using heat on foam, and keep the overhead door of the garage open for more air flow. Stay safe and healthy while Haunting, kids.
I changed my mind a little about some of the facade, so I took the side panels back off to work it laying down. It's not easy to get good pics of it like this... but progress!
I got the foam on the panels and now Mr. Screamscape is bracketing it all together so it's freestanding. Next is carving the foam so it will look like old stone and such.
Oh my God, the city is trimming The Horrible Walnut Tree.
Happy 2021! My resolution this year is to start my Halloween planning/builds a lot earlier and work on them slowly so I'm not crunched come fall. I'm putting out good vibes into the universe that the 'rona will be much more under control come this October and I can go to a whole bunch of OTHER haunted houses. Please witness as I will surely fail in this goal entirely and will decide come October that what I've done isn't nearly enough and I must make more.
Yes, I do decorate for Christmas, though it's much more low key and primarily inside. Halloween still creeps in of course. Mr. Screamscape and I started slowly building a Christmas village a few years ago which somehow attracted eclectic residents.
I need to remember to check my post-Christmas discount shopping stash before Halloween. I just found a bunch of green and red lights that I buy to use in pumpkins and such that I got after Christmas 2019.
