We need a FOSTER or FOSTER-TO-ADOPT for this handsome fella, Enzo! He's a 4 year old presa canario-mastiff mix and weighs in at about 90 lbs. He has a torn ACL and will need surgery soon (covered by rescue, of course!) - he needs a quiet house to stay quieter until and right after he gets fixed up. (his consult is 2/16) He's a little slow to warm up to new people, but then is relaxed and fine around others. He can be a little selective with dogs - he's never had any issues wi...th females and seems to do fine with bigger males, but has had some issues with with smaller males. We'd definitely want to do a meet & greet with any existing pets to ensure compatibility. He's crate trained and is getting better on a leash but is VERY interested in everything he sees and hears when on walks, so a short leash works best for him. He's a big lover and has lots of energy, but we've got to keep that contained for a bit. He's a mouthy player and needs TOUGH toys to keep him busy. We'd definitely be happy to even just find a temporary foster for ENZO as he recovers, but are open to a foster-to-adopt, as well. Update: ADOPTED!!!! We can't believe we haven't been inundated with applications yet for this gorgeous cattle dog mix who her foster terms, "the perfect dog!" BAILEY is a gorgeous, friendly Australian Cattle Dog mix who is estimated to be around 5 years old. Her foster reports she is an absolute sweetheart who loves to snuggle as much as she loves to play fetch or take a walk. She rides perfectly in a car and goes into a crate with no issues. She currently weighs 61 pound...s and is fully vetted. She hasn't been cat or kid tested with the foster yet, but we have no reason to believe there would be a problem because she's so friendly. Rescue isn't all rainbows and butterflies , and there are days that are tougher than others, for a variety of reasons (heartbreaking stories, financial stress of how to cover big operations and vetting, frustration over SO many owner surrenders day and day out, abuse cases. etc) -BUT pics like these can't help but make us smile. LOLA came to us in rough shape after we helped rescue her and others from a severe local hoarding situation Her life was not a good one. And look at this sweetheart now - she is 100% living her best life, and her adopter saw her potential and fell in love right away and RESCUED her in every sense of the word! We are ecstatic to report that the 4 pups whose mom was shot (she had the misfortune to give birth under a bridge near a school) and killed by police when they were less than 2 weeks old have made it to eating solids and are going to be available in about 2-3 weeks to adopt. They are adorable and applications will be accepted for the litter (2 boys 2 girls) but not specific puppies yet. They will be getting exposed to adult dogs in their foster now to hopefully teach them som...e doggy manners. Not having a mommy has stunted their doggy manners growth so we are recommending that whomever adopts has either another dog or a way to ensure continued other dog socializing to help this quartet be all they can be Mom is believed to be a pit type Dad is unknown- please understand we are getting dogs from high kill shelters with not much known on the majority of their origins We are offering best guess on breeds if at all. Meet a real Prince Prince is a 13 year old 9 lb poodle mix who is fully vetted with a dental and recent neuter. He’s dog and cat friendly but is still losing his testosterone so he tends to mount new friends but with redirecting settles. Mommy stellaluna needs a good home

Sweet Bella (see our post from earlier - she is one of the dogs belonging to a local woman found dead murdered in her home, that was surrendered to us yesterday) was seen today at York Animal Hospital and has a long list of medical issues -the main ones in order of priority: 1st -mammary tumor 2nd spay 3rd dual ear infection 4th acl tear... 5th luxtating patella Today she had blood work and chest X-ray and happily her X-ray looks fairly clear of cancer, but will have to check it once the tumor is removed. She needs her tumor and spay ASAP - I’ll be posting the estimate as soon as they send it. Please continue to call the vet with donations as it will be several thousand for that surgery alone. Update on Bella ~ we have a vet appointment at 3pm today at York Animal Hospital This hit all our volunteers very hard today. Our support to the victim’s family as they deal with the murder of their loved one, and we are doing everything possible to help heal Bella, body and soul. Above and beyond the OTHER multiple emergency local surrenders we get basically daily. So many heartbreaking stories of people gone, admitted to a nursing homes, or other sad reasons animals need to be regimes through no fault of their own.

The vet saw leah yesterday and was concerned with her back legs knuckling and that she was leaking urine. She’s on antibiotics and neurological meds then will be re-evaluated to determine if it’s a uti or something more serious She’s a sweet girl though and is making friends both people and other pets. We would be willing to do a foster to adopt situation where we cover any medical needs related to these presenting issues and the adoption would be final once resolved.

We’ve been asked to help with several moms as it’s puppy season in Georgia We will have puppies available in various intervals during the next 3-9 weeks plus a couple stand alone pups (last week one of our Georgia volunteers found 2 puppies in a box but they are in quarantine still) None are pure bred none do we necessarily know what breed the parents are. Help Us help sweet little LEAH! Leah is an adorable little 3-year-old shitzu mix who was recently surrendered to us and is scheduled for a vet evaluation on Monday morning. Besides needing spaying, Leah is partially paralyzed in her hind quarters and also slightly incontinent. She is friendly, snuggly, and great with people, dogs, and cats, and has found a way to get around okay, but we want to make sure she has the best shot at the rest of her many years to come, so we're ...getting her an evaluation to see if anything can be done to help her. She will be available for adoption, as well, pending what is found with this evaluation, but our adoption fees don't begin to cover most of the vetting that the dogs we take in require. Kids and dogs deserve space and no cute dog pics

We are writing this update as it’s almost been a full year since Roscoe the abandoned chained neighborhood backyard dog was rescued, stolen by previous owner, and returned because she realized she couldn’t care for him As a reminder to our followers, we get absolutely zero government funding - we are completely funded by our completely inadequate adoption fees (most vetting/transport/ food etc runs well into $1,000 per pet (recent emergency vet surgery cost us over $4,600 ...for 1 12 year old dog!)) and the generosity of our followers. To continue to rescue dogs and to care for the dogs we have taken in without continued help would be impossible. We are grateful for any help people are able to give. (For the sad few who try to bring a non-profit down because they are providing lifetime care for an unadoptable dog is really strange and we implore our followers to think about this dog who has already cost over $2,000 to vet completely, house, and feed the last year, that we have pledged to help for life. FRED is an 80 lb bloodhound who just turned 1 a couple of months ago. He's fully vetted and those he is with now say he's super sweet and a charming guy, and overall good with dogs and people, but it will take some diligence and work to maintain things to minimize conflict. He resource guards food and his crate. We're open to a foster-to-adopt situation for Fred if the fit is right. Adopted ! In Search of a SPECIAL HOME for sweet FOREST! Forest is a 9 month old chocolate lab mix. He's around 45 lbs now but likely still has some growing to do. He had a VERY rough start to his life and needs to learn to trust people. He came to us with gaping open wounds still from a chain collar being embedded in his neck. Those physical wounds have finally healed, and he has recently been neutered. Now he needs someone to help heal his heart!... He is afraid of humans, (will tuck his tail and hide) but has been learning they aren’t all bad! He does best around other dogs, as they give him confidence, so a buddy to play with would be a huge plus. He plays very nicely with his 2 smaller foster siblings (15 and 20 lbs). He also likes a crate, as he has a safe spot. He needs an adopter that is willing to give him time to get used to his new surroundings, and is willing to continue to teach him people won’t hurt him. It's been 2 months with his current foster and he has come a long way, but its going to take him some time to get over his traumatic, young start to his life. He loves to play with toys and has learned fetch. He is housebroken. Training even the basic sit, etc has been difficult as reaching toward him causes him to hide and flinch, even though he knows we wont hurt him. He will get up in the bed or on the sofa and snuggle you! Sudden movements and loud noises startle him as well. He has not been cat tested. He is a very sweet boy, and with continued love he will blossom. PLEASE do not consider adopting him if you do not understand he has been through a lot in his very short life, and he needs time, patience, and compassion above all else to get over his emotional scars. Totally forgot to mention the horrible sad situation we helped with late Thursday. I got a text from one of my shelter people and there were 4 orphaned 10-12 day old puppies that were coming into the shelter and could we help or they would for sure die overnight in the cold shelter without any feeding. I got to work quickly and one of our wonderful transport people Deb in Georgia raced the hour plus to the shelter to beat it closing for the night ... I then got ahold of one of our boarding places who has a puppy quarantine area and they happened to have a nursing mother there with puppies around the same age. The rescue who owns the nursing mom gave permission for the mom to nurse our puppies and hurrah 4 lives saved! We then were floored and crying when we heard how these babes ended up orphans. Turns out a stray momma dog (too often in the south) had her puppies under a bridge near an elementary school and was rightfully barking at kids who were getting too close to her nest of babies. The police came out and shot and killed the mom leaving these 2 boys and 2 girls alone and only by the grace of god did someone realize there were babies nearby. Apparently she had a much larger litter but with the elements only these 4 survived. They will be wet nursed another 10-14 days and begin transition to mush. There are 2 new secondhand dogs from local surrender and 2 updates on injured Georgia dogs coming soon One was a call yesterday morning that they had a pit mix 7 months old who they didn’t want any longer After discussing the dog a few minutes and I asked if he was healthy the owner says well he’s been throwing up blood several days and I haven’t taken him to the vet. So here we go I tell her I’m not sure I have a foster but she needs to get this dog to the vet immediately ...and our great friends at York Animal Hospital tell us we can bring the dog in immediately. I tell the owner to get the dog to the vet right away and she gets him there. Next is Sparkle a little 10 lb terrier mix who would be best in an adult only or older teen home The family had a baby and didn’t want to work with Sparkles issues and the new baby - she is in her new foster home with veteran foster Lisa who will be working on getting to know this scared little one. We also got Brody out of the shelter because his head was swollen and abscessing and he needs emergency surgery at our vet in Georgia to remove at least one eye. Anyone have room in their heart and their home to foster this special guy BRODY? He's 65 lbs of lab-pitty LOVE but almost completely blind. He was taken in as a stray awhile ago and no one has come to claim him yet, and the shelter does not have the funds to get him to specialist and get him vetted. We're swooping in to rescue him and get him ready for living in a home with a family like he DESERVES! <3 He's no more than a couple years old but has scars all over his body - ...he may have been in an accident as you can see trauma to the one eye. As soon as we get him pulled, we are taking him to get vetted and to a specialist (it's what we do!) - but we need a SPECIAL FOSTER. The shelter reports he's very guarded around other dogs, and it's likely the blindness and fear. The perfect foster in this case would have no other dogs, to make him feel safe and secure. Alternatively, a very low key dog could possibly work. Also, he'll need time and patience and love to acclimate to living in a home. Meet SHAGGY! Look at those eyes! He's an adult mastiff-staffy mix dog who is an absolute SWEETHEART! His foster reports he has really come a long way in the last few weeks he's been in their house. He was a mostly outside dog in his previous life, and is learning how great being an inside family dog can be! He's come along great with housebreaking, and is very eager to please. He loves "his people" and loves to snuggle and sometimes shadow you around the house. He does well... on a leash, but is very interested in all of the smells and sights and sounds, so walks can take awhile. He plays well with his foster-sibling dog, but can be overly interested in cats. He loves his foster's teen and pre-teen kids, but the foster worries he could be a little much for young children, when he is wanting to snuggle on top of people sometimes. ** SEE VIDEOS IN COMMENTS!! Luckily, Wednesday, the little pup with some patchy hair seems to be recovering well from her Strangles (a puppy ailment that can be very serious) but, after some vet visits, medication, and TLC. With her are sisters Crystal and Cowweb, all available in a few weeks for adoption!

We had a finishing foster but they had cats and this dog was not a fan and jumped over the gate to try to get the kitty. The whelping foster is ok keeping her but ideally a household with a few family members that can rotate watching her as it’s important she feeds everyone and doesn’t lie on top of any babies. ...
