On warm, sun-shining days like today, we are filled with immense #gratitude for Elizabeth Seton Children's Center's beautiful Paul Edward Verni Playground whose namesake touched the lives of so many people during his short life. This inclusive, adapted playground gives our children boundless opportunities to experience the pure joys of childhood. Amidst COVID-19, the Paul Edward Verni Playground was also the site of our safe family visits through our fence in the spring and s...ummer and, this fall, has been where many children and their parents were finally reunited with hugs and kisses. Check out this update in The Wall Street Journal about the new regulations that will improve the ability of our parents to reunite with their children and give them the hugs and kisses they have been longing for since March. We are grateful to Governor Andrew Cuomo and the #NewYorkState Department of Health for hearing our voices and balancing the need to reunite families with keeping everyone at Elizabeth Seton Children's Center safe. And of course, this change would not have been possible without YOUR advocacy. Children defined as having medical complexity at Elizabeth Seton Children's and throughout the country: - Have multiple diagnoses that are chronic and varied; - Have developmental and functional limitations requiring multiple, expensive, specialized medical and rehabilitative services; and - Require 24/7 clinical care including numerous diagnostic tests, surgeries, medications, treatment modalities, clinical monitoring devices and the utilization of respiratory and life-sustaining equipment
