Happy Tuesday! I’m excited to work today! I hope you are too! One of my patients turned me onto this journal and in honor of him I want to pay it forward! Regardless of what Is happening on our planet we are still responsible for self empowerment! The easiest way to empower is to think that way. So please tell me how you are engaging in self empowerment by leaving a comment below and you will be entered to win a copy of the Five-Minute Journal. I’m empowered by moving my body and feeling gratitude for the environment and people around me. That includes

Remember Saturday?! Oh, what the sun can do for a mood! That morning I hopped in my truck with my 10 year old son and my dog. We drove by many friends’ homes, as I knew they would be outside. It was amazing to see everyone (with proper social distancing). Peoples moods were infectious. It was amazing! Then rainy Sunday came. How easy it is to slip into a dire or dreaded mood just by feeling stuck inside again. Here is a video of a 9 year old boy who can teach us all about perspective. Although we may be getting tired of how life is right now, there is one thing we are always in control of our thoughts. Change your thoughts and you change your world.

In a time when we are so connected why do so many of us feel disconnected? Via Facebook, Instagram, IMessage’s, Snapchat, FaceTime, phone calls, and emails, we should all feel connected. But most of us don’t. I think this is a great lesson on how important human touch is. Especially in time of stress. Comfort comes in many forms and we are missing out on a primary one, hugging. I hope that isolation will teach us to always appreciate the love we have and to never take a ...hug for granted. I look forward to being able to hug my family and friends and truly miss our interactions. If you are longing to be more connected to the people you are physically disconnected with you should tell them. Linguistics are our primary connection right now and we need to get our words right. So, tell the people you love that you love them. Tell your family members how much you wish you could hug them. And when someone is telling you how much they love you, LISTEN. See more

How’s everyone doing? I can’t stop saying, what a wild place in time. As my family and I sit in our two-week quarantine, I realize I am blessed to be able to work from home. And I wonder how other families are doing. Are you worried about your kids? Are you worried about your parents? Are you worried about those less fortunate? Where does the worry stop? I think it stops when we are mindful and productive. I know for me, an adult with ADHD, I have a difficult tim...e sitting still, staying in one place, and I am trying very hard not to drive my wife nuts. So, if I can provide some quick advice - I’d say be mindful and productive. To start here are some techniques to be mindful: Meditate, read (not the news but a book), pray or listen to music. I would recommend that people who are home to do these things multiple times per day. Production: Freud believed that happiness was at its highest when someone was productive and felt loved. So, work out, or complete small tasks around the house, put together a puzzle, or google how to be productive at home. Call an old friend. Write emails to people that you are grateful for. Give praise and compliments to the loved ones in your home. Say thank you as much as you can! The easy thing is to do nothing. Watch Netflix and binge eat. I tried it it does not feel good. Watch Netflix and movies once you’ve done something productive and your relaxation will be much more rewarding. My friend just sent me a new workout, which I am excited about starting thank you Dave! Sending love to all my family and friends. And to all the hospital workers, grocery clerks, first responders, THANK YOU!! Please take care of yourselves (mentally and physically). See more

Sending a grateful shoutout to all hospital workers, grocery workers, politicians, musicians (playing online), and to my fellow psychotherapists. We have a major responsibility to take care of ourselves, families, patients, friends, fans and neighbors. So thank you to all who are working for others! Staying mindful and but grateful

Happy day everyone! Please remember that each of us have amazing capacities and we have a human spirit that is even stronger when we support each other. The primitive parts of our brain scan the world looking for danger (it’s how we’ve survived so long). As you find your brain scanning for the danger, don’t forget to look to the good. Don’t just look to fear to get you through these hard times, but look to hope, love, and gratitude as strategies to get through these diff...icult times. Take care of your loved ones, your neighbors, and yourself. As we all journey though these uncharted waters, I just want to let everyone know how Syracuse Family Counseling and I are operating. We do have the ability to use Tele-Health Medicine. You can use your laptop, PC, phone, or tablet to gain access to our online portal. This is for current and new patients. Telehealth is a live video feed (similar to FaceTime and Skype).
