Shas Yiden

Recently, all the 49 Shas Yiden avreichim from Yerushalayim, Bnei Brak and Beit Shemesh gathered at Yeshiva Daas Aharon in Har Nof. The occasion was a public Shas farher of the Shas Yiden by the two Roshei Yeshiva, Maranan Hageonim, Harav Nissan Kaplan and Harav Refael Shmuelewitz. The talmidim of the yeshiva gathered on three sides of the avreichim. The examiners asked detailed questions across the length and breadth of the Shas. The back and forth between the Roshei Yesh...iva and the Shas Yiden was a sight to behold. It was clear that every page, line and discussion of the Talmud was engraved in the minds of the Shas Yiden. At the conclusion of the hour-long farher, Rav Kaplan exclaimed: All my days I grew up among talmidei chachomim, howeverI have never witnessed such a phenomenon where each avreich is a ‘living Shas’. He then went on to comment, Our talmidim know just how hard they have to work to master Gemara page by page, to review and to remember; and this was their inspiration, said Rav Kaplan. The reaction of Maran Hagaon Harav David Cohen, shlita, Rosh Yeshiva, Chevron, to the farher was: It’s a mitzvah for every yeshiva to invite a group of the Shas Yiden avreichim geonim so that every bochur can see first-hand that he can become a Shas Yid. From today Friday, Erev Pesach, the new cycle of Bechoros begins for the next 60 days. Besides wishing you a mazaltov on completing Chullin which is a challenging masechta, we wish you hatzlacha with Bechoros and its own challenges. You will be happy to know that you have learning companions the avreichim geonim of Shas Yiden,... who will be keeping company with their supporters who are learning the Daf Hayomi. As is their derech, besides learning that daf for the day, they will also do 4 chazoras which works out to 300 blatt in the sixty days of Bechoros. In addition, they will be doing another 7 blatt a day to keep up with their study load. That plus the 4 chazoras will bring them to a total of 2400 blatt for each avreich over this Bechoros cycle. With 42 avreichim, that is a total of 100,800 blatt! The avreichim asked us to extend their brochos to you all for this Pesach, as well as their appreciation of the opportunity to be the Yissachar to your Zevulun, in partnership with their Torah learning.
