The Sherrill Garden Club is unable to have its annual Plant Sale due to COVID-19. The City of Sherrill is helping our club by holding this Virtual Run/Walk from May 1-16; you can walk or run as many miles as you want, on any route. The first 25 applicants will receive a free plant! Please help us out so we can continue our programs of education, through presentations open to the public; beautification, flower boxes and hanging baskets in Sherrill public places; and conservation, by the Smokey Bear/Woodsy Owl Poster Contest for grades 1-6 and support of nature conservancies. Thank you for your support! https://runsignup.com//NY/Youpickwhereyou/Centennial5KRun

The next meeting of the Sherrill Garden Club will be Tuesday, March 3rd at the Sherrill-Kenwood Library, 543 Sherrill Rd, Sherrill, NY. The business meeting will take place at 6 PM. At 7 PM, the featured speaker, Paul Sears, Master Gardener, will give a presentation on Composting. Composting is a form of waste disposal where organic waste decomposes naturally under oxygen-rich conditions. Food waste, such as banana peels, coffee grounds and eggshells, are great items to co...mpost. Once these waste items are placed in a pile, the composting process can start. The organic materials are broken down naturally by earthworms, bacteria and other organisms that live in soil. After several months, when all the organic material is broken down, the final product is created and is often referred to as humus. Paul will explain how to accomplish this at home and how to use the humus produced! Refreshments will be served by Hostesses Loretta Szczygiel and Valerie Scott. We invite community members to join us to learn about composting from Paul. See more
