Skidmore Office of Religious and Spiritual Life 21.01.2021

To those observing Yom Kippur we wish a meaningful fast and g'mar chatima tovah. [Scheduling note for Mindfulness and Yom Kippur below]. This poem, shared by our Coordinator for Jewish Student Life for our Keeping Sacred Time theme of stars in spirituality, was written by Hannah Szenes, a poet and heroine of the fight against Nazi Germany and its persecution of the Jewish people [text below]. Scheduling notes: Yom Kippur observances and gatherings are listed on SkidSync and... the JSL website, with in person and online options. Note that noon yoga and the regular 4:30 Mindfulness walk are cancelled today but other opportunities are available. See our website for more information: https://www.skidmore.edu/religious-life/ Image descriptions: Night Sky image with stars and dark silhouettes of trees (source: flickr, Nuzznez, public domain) with poem in English (first image) and Hebrew (second image): There are stars whose radiance is visible on Earth though they have long been extinct. There are people whose brilliance continues to light the world even though they are no longer among the living. These lights are particularly bright when the night is dark. They light the way for humankind. Hannah Szenes

Students! Our theme for Keeping Sacred Time this week includes the role of stars and constellations in religion and spirituality. So it's pretty cool that today's Paint n Sip event includes a glorious night sky. You can register to join in the artistic fun on SkidSync AND check out tomorrow night's interfaith stargazing event hosted by our partner clubs: Christian Fellowship, Hillel, Muslim Students Association, and Newman Club (Friday 9/25 8:30 pm by Haupt Pond) For today: Paint & Sip event at 4:30pm hosted by the Division of Student Affairs! Space is limited, but spots are still available. To RSVP go to SkidSync and search Paint & Sip. You’ll find it on the Office of the Dean of Students page. Be sure to login with your Skidmore info.
