The 2021 batch of Spicy Napa Kimchi is ready to order or pick up at market this week. Check out Curtido, also available this week, in our "other fermented vegetables" section. Curtido is a spicy slaw native to Central and South America fermented with oregano, onions, and carrots. Keep a look out next week for Mild Napa Kimchi and a few other surprises.

At Small World we go off the beaten path to find the highest quality items NY has to offer. We know you can find cheaper butter elsewhere, but we're confident you won't find better butter. Check out some new items at smallworldfood.com as well. Curtido and Mushroom Broth are now available for purchase.

Our miso is traditionally aged for about a year, but every once in a while we put some away and "forget" about it for a while. Just like wine, miso gets better with age. After three years, the umami is fully developed and ready for all your recipes. Available in 4oz and 16oz jars right on our website. There was less than 3 gallons of this flavor bomb so you be the judge on how long you should wait to order it.

These guys are Tom and Rosie, the mascots of Workin' in the Dirt farm. Royal Palm turkeys are the smallest breed of turkey, so they get an annual pardon from the festivities and are generally kept as pets. While we understand that not everyone celebrates the same way, if turkey is your thing for the end of November, we highly recommend pasture-raised birds, supplemented with certified organic feed from Workin' in the Dirt Farm. Don't worry, the bird you get will be the normal... Thanksgiving kind. These birds are raised outdoors where they can enjoy well over 200 square feet each. Solar power runs the farm's heat lamps (for when they're still small) and well pump, so things are as sustainable as they get. Do you know about our Custom CSA? With our CSA Share card you can support up to 15 farms each week, all from upstate NY and all either certified organic or organically grown. Plus everyone who signs up gets a bonus worth up to 10% of the purchase price. Traditional CSA's offer a variety of produce, but what if there's something in there you can't use (my kid will just not eat spinach) or what if you want extras? No worries! With our Custom CSA you get only what you want and y...ou get as much as you want. Traditional CSA's have a share for you each week. While some offer a bit of flexibility, if for some reason you can't make it or don't need it for the week, you may "lose" your share for the week. With our Custom CSA, you can use the credit on your card to order extra food when you need it or take some time off and save the credit for later in the season. Take up to 6 months to spend your share card, only when *you* need it. Our CSA share cards work just like a gift card and can be used at our booth at the Public Market or on our online store so we can all avoid credit card fees. The best part is that you don't have to commit to any single farm for months at a time. You can choose produce and other groceries from over a dozen different local farms any time you use it. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or order your share right online. www.smallworldfood.com/CSA

Beet kraut is finally back! This pretty, pink kraut has an amazing sweet and earthy flavor to it. Both the beets and the cabbage are certified organic and grown by two farms in Waterloo, NY. With each purchase, you support 3 local businesses. Check it out on our website or at market on Saturday. And remember, we're available 12 months per year for all of your eating needs. www.smallworldfood.com/product/sauerkraut

Not to brag, but the list of things we bring to market that no one else does is pretty long. We're really a market within the market. Milk, granola, and eggs for breakfast? Salad fixings and fermented veggies for lunch? Bread, meat, and mushrooms for dinner? We got it. Flour, syrup, jam, butter, bone broth, duxelles, and 100 other items to keep your pantry stocked are all available for pre-order on our website. The best part? You eat 12 months per year, so we're at market 12 ...months per year providing you with local, organic food even when the other markets shut down. www.smallworldfood.com/shop

How many vegetables can claim a starring role in a Star Wars movie and a mention in math class? These fractals are downright tasty. Certified organic from Schwartz Farm in Waterloo. Www.smallworldfood.com/shop

For Small World, the official start of fall is when we process our first batch of Napa Kimchi. Napa, root vegetables, ginger, hot peppers, kombu, and salt. Every veggie in it, well over 4000 lbs by the time we're done fermenting this year, is certified organic and locally grown right here in NYS. Even the ginger and red pepper flakes are local and organic. In fact, the only things not local is the seaweed (not much of that locally) and the salt. Keep an eye out in a month when this wonderful and tasty product is available in pints, quarts, and even some beautifully presented gallons for gifts.

Leep Foods sent us a few extra pounds of King Trumpets last week. With some leftover leeks from Jesse Graber's farm in Waterloo and some organic butter in the fridge, we just couldn't resist. https://smallworldfood.com/product/duxelles-2/

Businesses don't get much smaller than Small World. There have been many iterations of workers/owners, but none have ever seen more than a dozen folks working directly for us. We currently have 3 people running various areas of the business with a spare mom and kid helping out at market. Every purchase goes to support people living right here in our community. Every like, share, shout out, word of mouth, or positive comment helps. Are you a regular customer of ours? Bring a friend to market or for pickup on Sunday who has never tried anything from Small World and you will both go home with a complimentary jar of Green Kimchi or a pint of Oyster Mushrooms (subject to availability).

"Ooooh Broccoli with cheese" was a staple in our house when my son, Ari, was much younger. Now I admit that Whiskey Hill has a difficult time growing their certified organic broccoli with the cheese already on top, but I'm sure you'll manage as we did.

These are young Reishi mushrooms. A few years ago we had to cut down a silver maple tree which was shading a roof destined for solar panels. Not a big fan of lawns anyway, I decided to let the stump age and breakdown naturally. Soon after we started seeing reishi shelves appear and have had them every year since. While the process of breaking down a mighty maple into dirt again is fascinating and beautiful, I will be sad to see my reishi consume it's food and move on to some other great maple tree that I won't be able to observe.
