Whatever you were doing back on Saturday, June 22nd, chances are it didn't burn half as many calories, didn't bring half as many people together or didn't raise... half the funds for the cause of stopping gun violence as the FSW SNUG Stop the Violence Basketball Tournament did! Teams from SNUG programs in Troy, Hempstead, The Bronx, Wyandanch, Yonkers and Albany joined FSW's Mount Vernon team in competing for the trophy, which was won this year by Jacobi's Bronx SUV - Stand Up To Violence team. SNUG, which is administered by the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services, aims to curb gun violence and save lives by treating gun violence as a public health hazard. That viewpoint on the problem lets outreach workers curb the "contagion" of street violence by connecting high-risk youth with programs and services, and stepping in during the aftermath of shootings to prevent retaliation. Thanks to the generosity of this year's sponsors and the devoted work of the participants, FSW's SNUG program raised not only awareness and community spirit but a record amount of funding as well.

The dedicated Mount Vernon SNUG of FSW gun violence prevention team isn't in it for the recognition, but we're delighted to share that yesterday they got some! ...Francis Stone, SNUG's senior outreach supervisor, won a Barbara Banks Champion of Children & Families Award at the Myra Alfreds Roundtable System of Care Awards, hosted by Family Ties of Westchester, Inc. and Marlene Furtick, director of our Mount Vernon clinic participated in a panel discussion. Thank you, Francis, Marlene and everyone at Team SNUG for all you do for Family Services of Westchester and Mount Vernon!

Hello, On Monday April 30, 2018, the Mount Vernon community was faced with another shooting incident which left 1 person deceased. In response to this incident,... Project SNUG will be conducting a shooting response on Wednesday May 2,2018 at 6 p.m. at the corners of Union Avenue & 4th Street, Mount Vernon, N.Y.. We invite members of the Mount Vernon community including residents, community and religious leaders as well as media representatives, to join us as we come together to bring awareness to gun violence.
