Nutrition tip for the day: if your kids won't eat their veggies, maybe they'll drink them! Spinach, carrots, sweet potatoes, winter squahs and other mild, sweet veggies can be blended into smoothies easily. Try color matching- for example, use spinach in a kiwi banana or honeydew melon smoothie, so the green color won't be unexpected. Carrots could be mixed into a peach, mango or "carrot cake" smoothie. Thursday is the last day to enter the easter coloring contest. Everybody is invited tojoin us at Lighthouse Baptist Church, 1000 main Street, for easter services! Sunrise service, followed by breakfast, and then an Easter Cantata- come for one or all! See LBCnewark.com or the LCB Facebook page for details.
Nutrition Tip for the Day: Make your favorite ground beef recipes healthier by subbing oatmeal, rice, beans, or finely chopped vegetables (peppers, onions, celery, carrots) for part of the meat. You'll cut fat, boost fiber and save money.
Current event- Easter coloring contest for the kids! Pick up a coloring page on the office counter, rules posted in the store. Thursday night: last night for "Talk to a Registered Dietitian"- 7 pm- closing, free, get answers to your nutrition questions. Coming in April: special on top loader washers, $1.00 per load; dry cleaning special on winter coats (sorry, it excludes suede and leather coats), 10% off. Hope to see you soon!
Nutrition tip for the day: "stretch" is one of the ways your stomach signals your brain that you are full- but your stomach doesn't care whether it's stretched by a 20 oz glass of water (0 calories, 0 fat) or a whopper with cheese (733 calories, 44 g fat). That's why it's a good idea to have a glass of water, green tea, vegetable juice, or other low calorie beverage about 10 minutes before eating. Alternating temperatures, like having a hot beverage and a cold salad, is another way to promote a feeling of fullness on fewer calories.
Nutrition tip for the day: Aren't you tired of hearing, "Park further away from the store." and "Take the elevator instead of the stairs." Honestly, this has been advised in every health and nutrition article over the past decade!!! How about a new idea: the average American watches at least two hours of TV per day. In two hours of TV, you see 44 minutes of commercials. If all you do is get up and walk laps around the couch during commercials, you are getting the minimum amount of exercise needed to benefit your heart!

Laundry tip for the day: Instead of using dryer sheets, consider adding a "fabric softener" to the washer. They actually soften the water, making your soap more effective, so you use less soap!
