Meet the Rose of Jericho. It's a desert moss, found in north east Africa and the Middle East that can survive months without water; curling up into a ball and looking like a dead bit of brush. As 2020 rolls to a close, we've seen a lot of 'good riddance' sentiments flying around. And yet, at the same time, reflections on the better parts and un...expected gifts that came from the pandemic. For us it's been the adventure of starting e-commerce before we were "ready". It is with that spirit we are looking ahead to 2021. Not for earth shattering change, but quiet growth. Reflection. Rejuvenation. Re-centering. And a re-balancing of life. We just so happened to discover the Rose of Jericho a few days ago; we discovered it in a moment of synchronicity when picking up some herbs and this unassuming 'tumbleweed' caught our eye. As we happen to enjoy unique herbs and plants, we felt inclined to bring this plant home with us, and named her Esmerelda. Not until the next day did we learn all the secrets it holds: including the ability to reawaken from dormancy with a little bit of light and water. We found this a most perfect symbol of resilience to bring in 2021, and 'planted' her on the evening of Dec. 30th. While she will take several days to come to full-bloom, we were amazed to see her progress in just a few hours of a hospitable climate.
