Urinary Incontinence is the involuntary loss of urine. There are several types which include: 1) Stress Incontinence occurs with increased intra-abdominal pressure such as laughing, sneezing, coughing, lifting. 2) Urge Incontinence (overactive bladder) is leakage with a sudden uncontrollable need to urinate Overflow Incontinence occurs if you are unable to feel the bladder getting full Mixed Incontinence refers to the combination of both stress and urge incontinence.... If you have any questions about these symptoms, contact us either through email, phone or DM, and we will be sure to help you #pelvichealth #bladderhealth #urinaryincontinence #pelvicpain #chronicpain #bladderpain #sexualhealth #physicaltherapy #pelvicfloorpt

Did you know that constipation can greatly impact your bladder. A full rectum can press on the bladder which will not allow it to fill completely. Also, straining to have a bowel movement can irritate the pelvic floor muscles which will negatively impact your bladder health. If you have any questions/are curious how we can help you, send us an email or DM us #pelvichealth #pelvicpain #constipation #pelvicfloor #womenshealth #menshealth #sexualhealth #intimatehealth #guthealth #digestion #chronicpain

There are times when you will get a strong urge to urinate but not be able to use a bathroom right away, or if you just urinated and know you should not go again. A few techniques to push off a strong urge are: 1) Sit down or stand still 2) Diaphragmatic Breathing 3) Put pressure on the perineum 4) Distraction or visualization... Meditation 5) 5 Quick flick contractions and relaxations of the pelvic floor muscles If these do not work, take a deep breath and slowly walk to the bathroom to keep your nervous system in a calm state. #pelvichealth #bladderhealth #pelvicfloor #solsticept #womenshealth #sexualhealth #bladderpain #utis #urgency #bladderfrequency #chronicpain #pt #healing

Happy November! This month we are focusing on all things bladder. The bladder is like a big balloon that collects and holds our urine. As the bladder fills with urine the bladder muscle, called the detrusor, stays relaxed. The bladder stores urine until our reflexes give us an urge to pee. Our brain sends a signal to hold the urine in until it isthe right time, our pelvic floor muscles will contract to help hold. When we finally get to a toilet the pelvic floor muscles re...lax, our bladder muscle contracts and we are able to urinate! Stay tuned for lots more information on bladder health, habits and healing #bladderhealth #bladderpain #pelvichealth #pelvicpain #womenshealth #holistichealth #physicaltherapy #pelvicfloorpt

Do you know what a pessary is? A pessary is a device that is inserted into the vagina to support the pelvic organs. A pessary is an option if a pelvic organ prolapse does not resolve with pelvic floor muscle retraining and physical therapy alone. Pessaries come in a variety of shapes and sizes andwill be fitted specifically for you by your gynecologist. #prolapse #pelvicfloorexercises #pelvichealth #pelvicfloorphysicaltherapy #pelvicpain #chronicpain #healing #pt #intimatehealth #sexualhealth

It’s always important to avoid holding your breath (also known as valsalva) while doing strenuous activities - especially if you are diagnosed with a prolapse. Think about your breathing when having a bowel movement, pushing for birth, and lifting your baby!

New blog post up on our website link in bio! Here is a little preview! Regardless of the type of delivery - vaginal delivery or cesarean - prolapse is a very real possibility. Being told that you have a prolapse after childbirth is scary what is it? Can it be treated? The good news is YES! There are several effective ways to treat pelvic-organ prolapse.... What is prolapse? Pelvic organs are supported by ligaments above and by (can you say around rather than by?) the pelvic floor muscles and the fascia below. If either structure weakens, it can cause the organ to drop down. Symptoms of prolapse may include heaviness or pressure in your pelvis, something protruding from your vaginal opening or anus, or difficulty evacuating stool or urine. To be properly diagnosed, you should schedule a follow-up appointment with your OB/GYN on or about 6 weeks after giving birth. #pelvichealth #pelvicorganprolapse #physicaltherapy #womenshealth #pelvicpain #vaginaldelivery #healing #chronicpain #pt #pelvichealth #bladderprolapse

Treatment of a pelvic organ prolapse will depend greatly on the degree of prolapse and how it is impacting your daily activities.Prolapse is graded on the position the organ is in and how far down it is descended. Often symptoms are worse in standing and at the end of the day as gravity pulls on our body.

When being assessed for a prolapse, it’s important you are assessed in the position in which you have symptoms. Sometimes, a prolapse will only be apparent in a weight bearing position and will not be as prominent when you are on your back on the table. Speak with your provider about when your symptoms occur! This is crucial for a proper diagnosis. Always feel free to DM, email or call us with any questions you have #pelvichealth #prolapse #womenshealth #pelvicpain #physicaltherapy #pelvicpain #chronicpain

Happy Monday! Each month for the next few months will be dedicated to it’s own topic & this month is going to be all about pelvic organ prolapse.Pelvic floor muscles play an important role in supporting our pelvic organs (bladder, uterus and rectum). Weakness in the pelvic floor muscles can cause prolapse of these organs. Cystocele is the most common form of prolapse; it occurs when the bladder falls into the vaginal canal and sometimes is referred to as an anterior prolapse. Rectocele is a posterior prolapse and occurs when the rectum protrudes through the back wall of the vagina, Uterine prolapse is when the uterus drops into the vaginal canal. We will be diving further into this all in the coming posts. In the meantime, comment below any questions you have or want us to answer

The average American eats 7-8g of fiber a day, however, the recommended amount of fiber is 25g a day. Why is fiber so important?! Fiber draws water into the stool, which will soften it and make for an easier bowel movement. Softer stool will mean less straining on the pelvic floor muscles to use the bathroom. The healthier your gut the healthier your pelvic floor.... #fiber #guthealth #pelvichealth #healing #nutrition #physicaltherapy
