Southampton School District Information

Bringing cheer and joy to students and staff, Santa paid a visit to the Southampton School District during the week of Dec. 14. Unlike in years past, however, this year he arrived on a special sleigh constructed by the high school’s building trades students. The construction of the festively adorned sleigh was spearheaded by the district’s school resource officer, Tiffany Lubold, who knew that Santa’s traditional visit needed to be adjusted with COVID regulations. A sleigh w...as needed so that Santa could safely visit with students. Working in a timeline of just under two weeks, carpentry teacher Bernardo Diaz and his students got out their tools and collaborated with art teacher Pam Collins, who sketched the sleigh and reindeer silhouettes to pull it. Given the time frame of just 15 work hours, the project became a daunting challenge, said Diaz. But I was confident that my class could build it perfectly. Diaz said he is thankful that his students Luis Avendano, Yenir Garcia, Oscar Lopez, Marlon Martinez, Styven Mayen, Marco Rax, Daniel Silva, Keysi Suruy and Michel Vasquez had the opportunity to work on a project that brought smiles to the school community, which has been dealing with so much this year. The project was sponsored by the Southampton Police Department, the Southampton Police Benevolent Association and the Southampton Teacher’s Association.

Due to the inclement weather, Southampton School District will change from live instruction to remote instruction for all students today. Classes will follow the remote schedule posted for their building/grade level. BOCES students should plan on participating in their programs remotely if the BOCES center is open. The Southampton School District’s Opening Act Club, Early Act Club and Interact Club worked with the Southampton Rotary Club on Dec. 10 to fill decorated holiday boxes with food. The boxes were distributed to local food banks for those in need at Christmas.
