THE SOUTHERN TIER SPECIAL ED TASK FORCE PRESENTS: ART, MUSIC, AND PHYSICAL EDUCATION: ENGAGING STUDENTS IN SPECIAL EDUCATION DURING THE PANDEMIC Like all students, students with disabilities love and respond to classes in art, music, and physical education. As the weather turns colder, teachers and families will need indoor activities to engage our students, especially those experiencing virtual instruction. Join us for an evening program with three related arts teachers, as ...they share their ideas for working with students with disabilities during the pandemic. FEATURING: Melissa Restuccia, the Vestal K-12 Art Department Chair, has 27 years of teaching art, including 24 years in rural and suburban public schools, working with all students and needs. She also paints and teaches privately from her home studio, Gray Cat Restoration. A wife, parent of young adults, and breast cancer warrior, Melissa is passionate about teaching and sharing knowledge of art to help others achieve balance in life activities. Virginia Sears had 7 years of experience as one-woman show in music at an elementary school in Cambridge, Maryland before coming to New York. Since 2016, she has been at Johnson City Pri-mary and Intermediate School teaching elementary general music and 5th grade chorus. Theresa McKinney teaches physical education (PE) and has coached multiple sports at the college, high school, middle school, and elementary levels. Prior to moving locally, she taught in the Bronx. She has spent the last 24 years in the Union-Endicott CSD. She has earned the Union-Endicott Founders Day Award and 2016 NYS AHPERD South-Central Award, and has served as the instructor at Tiger Ventures, a small class immersion program. She is passionate about helping students' value physical activity, understanding importance of caring for their bodies and minds, and making positive and lasting connections with them.
