Sister Margaret Mayce, OP, International Coordinator for Dominican Sisters International, shares the Dominican Sister's response to the needs of Ukrainian refugees. This video from Sister Karola Dravecká, OP, Prioress of the Dominican Congregation of Blessed Imelda in Slovakia, highlights the humanitarian aid their Sisters are providing to refugees in Mukachevo and Fridisov, Ukraine.* Donations that the Sisters have received from benefactors throughout the world have helped t...o make this relief effort possible. Sister Margaret reminds us, We continue to hold our Sisters in prayer, with deep gratitude for the comfort they are extending to the refugees. And we continue to pray for the people of Ukraine, and for those who deliberately inflict such suffering on innocent men, women and children. * The Sisters collect and distribute needed donations of food, clothing, medicine, toiletries, and children's toys for guests at various shelters. Besides supplies, the Sisters deliver compassion as they encourage the people to share their stories and are a welcoming presence. Right now, those who have had to flee home, feel at home with the Sisters. To view video directly on YouTube, visit https://youtu.be/BfdnjihCtfA

Our prayer today is for students, teachers, school administrators, staff, and parents as they navigate the changing circumstances in our schools. We pray for their safety and peace during this stressful time. Lord, give them strength, patience, creativity, and a positive attitude as they work together to ensure that learning continues to take place despite the challenges. May they find the support they need.

On this year's #UnitedNationsDay, we mark the 75th anniversary of the U.N. Charter's coming into effect. There is no other global organization with the legitimacy, convening power and normative impact of the United Nations. Today, the urgency for all countries to come together, to fulfil the promise of the nations united, has rarely been greater. We continue to pray for the success of the U.N. and its mission. https://youtu.be/8e8jngVUo68

On this #UnitedNationsDay, we pray for our world during this unprecedented global health crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with its severe economic and social impacts. Lord, show the countries of the world how to work together so that the struggles before us will become opportunities for positive change and transformation. Show our leaders the way forward.

This is a moment when all of us are called to rise above what divides us and come together. We pray that on Election Day the citizens of our country will make their decisions with the goal of the common good of not only our own country, but also the good of the global community and our planet. To vote is to exercise our moral obligation to care for our neighbor. Let us seek to elect good, moral public servants for our communities. #Election2020 #Vote2020 #CommonGood... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vgZQL3RSfeo&feature=youtu.be

Today we pray for the gift of discernment in this time when we are being bombarded with so many contradictory messages. Lord, give us the grace to see what is true and right. Help us to find the path you want us to walk and to discover the gifts we have to share with our world. Give us the courage we need to embrace opportunities to be witnesses of love, peace, justice, and compassion in these challenging times.

Today our prayer is for the children who have been separated from their parents at our country’s border, especially the 545 children whose parents have not been able to be located, some of whom have spent more than half their lives without their parents. Lord, we pray that these grieving parents will soon be reunited with their children. Bless the foster parents who have been caring for these traumatized little ones.

10 days left to be part of our Associates' have third annual Pajama & Book Drive, a project to collect pajamas and books for children who go to bed each night having to wear the clothing they wore all day because either they are living in shelters or their families lack the resources to provide them with sleepwear. We thank our Associates for bringing this need to our attention and giving us a way to help! If you would like to contribute, contact: [email protected] or [email protected] Pajama and book donations can be made or donations of gift cards/checks. We pray today for all who are working to find a cure for the COVID-19 virus: discovering effective therapeutic treatments and producing a successful vaccine. Lord, give them strength and confidence to continue the research. Let their efforts yield results that will provide hope and healing for all those who are suffering from this disease. May they find the support they need to persevere.

We invite you to join us in praying with this week's election reflection, Courage and the Common Good, now available at: https://lcwr.org//r/attachments/10.20.20_contemplative.pdf Part of Leadership Conference of Women Religious (LCWR)'s series "Towards a More Perfect Union," this guide helps us to reflect on questions such as: "What does is mean to say that our faith and all that we desire for our world calls us to be contemplatives-in-action?"

Our prayer today is for our country as we approach Election Day. Lord, help us to focus on the needs of our country as we make our choices of candidates. Keep us from engaging in divisive and unproductive conversation that perpetuate division. Show us ways to work for unity among our citizens and a commitment to ensuring the common good as we look to the future.
