Update #3: Joker and Flirt’s Journey to Ruffian Joker and Flirt did so well overnight! Returned home to us in the worst weather conditions like they never left. Lots of instructions for the aftercare came home with them but Spirit’s Promise Staff is excited to get them back on track. Extra love, attention and food is coming to them for the foreseeable future. Please continue to follow us as I post how they are doing in a few days. Thank you to all the staff at Cornell Ruffian Equine Specialists, Athletic Equine and Mr.Rob West for helping us get our horses back to good health!

Update# 2: Joker and Flirt’s Journey to Ruffian Joker is alert and bright with a big appetite. Doesn’t appear he had any procedure done! Will stay the day to rest and recover while Flirt awaits her procedure. Flirt went in for a fairly lengthy procedure, enucleation of the right eye due to squamous cell carcinoma. She did phenomenal! No evidence of the cancer spreading past the cornea. A little shaky as she learns to see from one eye, but still just as sassy. gf.me/u/zas7p4

With some doubt, because both of them haven’t been trailered in quite some time it couldn’t have gone any smoother. Starting the weekend off, Joker was in surgery for almost 6 hours, removing his upper & lower incisors/canines due to severe EOTRH. He came out of surgery and sedation with flying colors with a huge appetite! Flirt made new friends in the barn as she waits for her procedure today. Wading River Boy Scout Troop 94 is hosting its annual food drive for the Wading River Fire Department Stuff-A-Bus in conjunction with Spirit’s Promise during their holiday light tour. Participants of the holiday farm light tour are encouraged to bring non-perishable items to donate donate prior to attending the holiday tour. The Wading River Fire Department is preparing for its annual Stuff-A-Bus food drive campaign, which ends New Year’s Day. Last year, the bus was filled... with food to its roof. This year, the food drive is truly needed. The bus has been graciously donated by the First Student bus company in Shoreham and will be located in the parking lot at Wading River Fire Headquarters (1/4 mile east of the Duck Ponds on North Country Road) where you can drop off non-perishable food and canned goods any time. All good donations will be delivered to area churches and food pantries in early January. See more
