On behalf of the men and women of the Spring Valley Police Department, we would like to announce the retirement of Chief Paul J Modica #546. Chief Modica started his police career in April 1988 and has served the community admirably for the last 32 years, and has shown excellence and dedication not only to the members of this department but to the residents of Spring Valley. Chief Modica held the rank of Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Chief of Police. As you end your last shift, we would like to wish you all of the best in your retirement.

As of 1600 hrs the road is back open. The Spring Valley Police Department is currently operating on Dutch Lane near Lawrence Street for astructure fire. Department 17 is on scene and Dutch Lane from Van Orden Avenue to Lawrence Street is currently closed.

PRESS RELEASE 20SV20167 On 12/10/2020 at approximately 1735 hrs, the Spring Valley Police Department received a phone call from a male in the Target Store at the Spring Valley Marketplace who stated he was armed, had multiple hostages, and placed explosives throughout the store. The Spring Valley Police Department immediately dispatched units to the location and the incident turned into a multi-departmental operation being lead by the Spring Valley Police Department. ... The Target Store was evacuated and cleared by agencies on scene as well as numerous Canine Units from throughout the state. Once the Target Store was deemed safe of any immediate threat, the store was re-opened as well as the rest of vehicular and pedestrian traffic to the Spring Valley Marketplace. Although the investigation is currently pending, it appears that the initial call was a swatting incident. We would like to thank the following agencies who assisted in this operation; Clarkstown Police Department, Town of Ramapo Police Department, Rockland County Sheriff's Office, New York State Police, M.T.A. Police, South Nyack Grandview Police, FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (A.T.F.), Spring Valley Fire Department, Spring Hill Community Ambulance Corps, and Rockland County Paramedic Services. **As of 2025 hrs the Target Store in the Spring Valley Marketplace was cleared to re open. There will be a formal press release distributed within the hour. The Spring Valley Police Department along with several different agencies from throughout the County are currently operating at the Target Store at the Spring Valley Marketplace. All public is asked to stay clear of the Spring Valley Marketplace until further notice.
