A message about missions at St Mark’s Church from Carol Johns We would like to thank all who are helping us reach out to those in need. Many people have contributed food, clothing, personal items, dental and other supplies. We have even been able to donate fresh vegetables from our own garden, grown through the love and hard work of a few of our parishioners. Other St. Mark’s members have donated money with which we purchase many more necessary items. Still others have ...given their time shopping; distributing our donations, or working in our kitchen and Parish Hall. At the moment, we have four special missions that currently receive our help: Maureen’s Haven Homeless Outreach in Riverhead provides numerous services throughout the year to those who find themselves homeless, including assistance with finding housing and jobs. Partnering with Houses of Worship throughout the East End, they provide shelter during the coldest months of the year. This massive volunteer effort has saved and enhanced hundreds of lives. For many years we have donated dental and other toiletries as well as women’s care products to Maureen’s Haven. The Retreat in East Hampton, with an office in Riverhead, is a safe haven for families in crisis. Professionals and trained volunteers provide services at no charge to those experiencing domestic violence and sexual assault. Volunteers help clients safely heal and re-establish their lives. The Retreat has a 24-hour hotline which received nearly 3,200 calls last year. St. Mark’s donates women’s and children’s clothing and drug store items. CASA Riverhead Mission, supported by the Diocese of Long Island, is being formed at the former Grace Episcopal Church in Riverhead. CASA, or Center for Alliance, Solidarity and Accompaniment, arises out of the Rural and Migrant Ministry, a long-time partnership with the Diocese of Long Island created to improve conditions for farm workers. CASA will be a new Center, giving voice to the concerns of farm laborers, many of them Latinos. It will provide leadership counseling, vocational training and classes in English-as-a-second-language. St. Mark’s Food Pantry, partnering with Bright Beginnings, donates non-perishable food to local families in need. This operates out of our own kitchen and Parish Hall with the help of volunteers from St. Mark’s and Bright Beginnings. (Our Bread and More Food Pantry, which usually meets once a month at the First Congregational Church in Riverhead, is temporarily on hold due to the virus. ) We expect our aid to these missions to be ongoing and we would like to consider other areas of need within our community that need help. It is an important way to grow in love and faith as a church and to share that with others. Thank you again for your wonderful generosity.

As an outreach to our community, Bright Beginnings with the support of the Vestry upgraded the gym (undercroft) to allow elementary school children to have a place to go while in a hybrid model at their school. Thank you to Mr. Chris helping us to get it done.

Dear St Marks Family and Friends, At this time I would like to publicly thank some of our members who have stepped forward with their time to care for St Mark's Church. The Inside of our Church:... Chris Adams, Steve Turner, and Steve DeCaro replaced lights to LED's, checked out our sound system, helped with physical labor of moving items from room to room, and assisted in handyman type jobs. Catharine Nobiletti cared for our Altar Guild items and worked with Judy McDermott to organize the attic area and declutter it. The room was like going into Grandma's old attic so much stuff. Barbara Callahan, Steve Turner, Jeff Dalder and Carol Johns have assisted in our Food Pantry. Kate has held down the office with phone problems and workmen in to fix or do maintenance work on our building. Dawn, Kim and Sara have sat through guidelines on reopening the school and spent days planning for reopening Bright Beginnings. Great job and very well thought out safety measures. The Outside of our Church: Chris Adams has had many projects underway and completed with the help of Ashley McLean, Steve Turner, Steve DeCaro, and Jeff Dalder. The Community Garden looks terrific and we are now giving fresh produce to our Food Pantry families. Thanks Ashley! Judy McDermott and Carol Fitton are weeding our gardens. During the month of July, Marjorie Kulesa, Barbara Pettus, and Tom Simson were the working crew who set up and cleaned up after our outdoor services. Stephanie Zayicek submits our Facebook entries. Tom Simson deserves a special thank you for all the hard work on our Website with Marjorie Kulesa input. and helping us with modern tech. issues. He is a wonderful resource. Also, thanks Tom for getting the bills paid! There are members who could not do the physical labor but contributed with funds that helped us take care of the physical needs and Items for our outreach programs. A special thank you to those of you who have helped with these endeavors. It is such a positive to see the labor of love for St Mark's! God Bless You All, Diane Stewart
