Every year, MaryAgnes McAvoy, Chief Receptionist for St. Ann’s Home & Wegman Care Center, creates homemade gifts for the St. Ann’s Craft Sales to benefit our residents. With no craft fair this year, MaryAgnes still wanted to do something to give back to the community! The last few weeks she has been raffling off Holiday themed crafts, all hand created by her. Employees of St. Ann’s are eligible for the raffle, and all proceeds are being donated to Alzheimer's Association: Rochester, NY. The next round of winners will be selected tomorrow morning, make sure you grab a ticket!

The elders of Wegman Care Center had a great time with this festive art project, which was made possible by a donation from a family of St. Ann’s Community. In addition to being adorable, these washcloth and soap reindeer smell so fresh & clean!

The residents of Wegman Care Center celebrated Oktoberfest this week with a traveling party! Liz Birch, Life Enrichment Advocate, and Erica Smith, Music Therapist, brought the fun from room to room complete with pretzels & mustard, beer, and German music! The day of song & celebration was topped off with a viewing party of Mariana Gonzalez, who is a resident favorite (and fantastic accordion player)! Mariana performed in the Chapel, and her concert was livestreamed to all of the residents throughout Wegman Care Center and St. Ann’s Home. Prost!

The annual autumn hoedown at Cherry Ridge looked a little different this year but as always, it was still a blast thanks to the fun-loving nature of our residents & the creativity of our staff! Thank you to country singer Mike Kornich for hopping on the back of our trailer stage and performing throughout the Cherry Ridge campus!

After a year like 2020, the holidays should be a time to celebrate our strength, courage and perseverance. Although attending holiday parties and gatherings may be off the table, there’s no reason to deny yourself the festive foods and treats that are central to the season. Being in quarantine due to COVID-19 is the perfect opportunity to approach daily life more intentionally. Allowing curiosity to lead the way can help keep loneliness at bay, especially if you’re a senior who’s at greater risk for complications associated with the virus. The Rochester Police Mounted Patrol Unit paid a special visit to the residents of Chapel Oaks! It was so nice to meet Dusty & Duncan, two of the hardest working (and friendliest!) police horses in the force! What made this visit even more special was that Joan, a resident of Chapel Oaks, got to see her daughter Joanne (pictured together in first photo) in action, as she is a Mounted Patrol Officer with RPD.

Gerta and Don didn’t expect any sort of celebration for their 73rd anniversary this year but little did they know that their friends at Cherry Ridge had other plans! Last night, a group of staff surprised the couple at their door, with dinner and flowers in tow, to wish them a happy anniversary! The couple’s dinner for the evening was prepared by the Cherry Ridge kitchen crew and included their favorite recipes from home a grilled reuben, steamed asparagus & cauliflower,... and (most importantly, according to Gerta ) freshly made ambrosia. Both natives of Rochester, Gerta and Don were married on November 24th, 1947. They have seen a lot during their 73 years of marriage, and they have never seen a year like 2020. Although Gerta’s book club is no longer meeting, she still loves to read from her extensive book collection, while Don enjoys watching sports on TV. The greatest upside to this unprecedented time of social distancing? According to the couple they most love spending time with one another
