July 14, 2020 I'm sorry I haven't been keeping all of you updated :( The inside of the Caboose is being finished, the floor, the walls, the benches, the sections under the cupola, painting the ceiling hopefully with a paint sprayer. That would be easier and faster. The inside will be painted a two tone grey. Darker on the bottom and the the lighter will go on the top section. We picked up the custom built doors on July 4th, what a beautiful job !! Hoping by this fall it will be done, what a relief that would be . Labor of Love for sure. Pictures will follow I promise.
June 25, 2020 The Sterling Historical Society received a grant today from the William G Pomeroy Foundation for $1,000. I applied to them for help with the replacement of the Signal Tower roof. This grant along with our memberships generous donations we are able to do the maintenance on our Sterling Heritage Park. Our Signal Tower is one of the very few around and we want to keep it in great shape for years to come and for our visitors who have never seen one. Thank You to the William G. Pomeroy Foundation and our membership!!
May 12, 2020 Tuesday I worked to get ready to send out letters to our ad sponsors for the calendar for 2021. Takes me a little longer, but keeps my mind occupied. Two men have been working hard since the first part of April to get the Caboose put back together. The interior walls are covered with tongue and groove boards, windows are in trimmed both outside and inside lastly the floor is down and that also is tongue and groove boards. We will soon be ready to paint the inte...rior...does anyone have any ideas on what color they'd like? Most cabooses are two toned, hhmmm something to think about! Soon the benches will be built, benches are usually thre same color as the bottom half of the walls. Yes these two men are being careful and staying safe. There are many little jobs that need to be done as the caboose has taken a lot of time. Good time to do extra painting, spruce up the exhibits, power washing the deck on the Waldron building. There is NOT a meeting for May and we did cancel our annual banquet in June. We will have to see what July brings, and are we essential and do we have to do safe distancing then also? Hope everyone is practicing safe distancing and stay healthy. It's not easy but we shall go on....I will update with photos a bit later. See more
