If you are an international student (F-1 visa holder) who is interested in putting your knowledge and skills to work and gaining professional experience in the United States, before returning home, then you will want to attend this program! Representatives from the International Student and Scholar Services Office will be present to discuss the following: What Curricular Practical Training (CPT) is and how to use it; What Optional Practical Training (OPT) is and how to use it; What is the difference between pre- and post-completion OPT; When to file your application for OPT; Traveling while on OPT; What is STEM extension and E-verifyDo I qualify? TRAVEL & MAINTAINING STATUS WORKSHOP When: Thursday, April 4th during Common Hour (1:50 pm 3:15 pm) Where: D'Angelo Center, Room 406 If you are an international student (F-1 visa holder) who is interested in knowing the required documents to safely travel outside of the United States as well as maintain your F-1 status, then you will want to attend this program! Representatives from the International Student and Scholar Services Office will be present to discuss the following: What documents do I need to have when traveling outside of the US: Do I need to have a travel signature if I am traveling inside the US; If my visa is expired, can I travel outside the US without renewing it?; What must I do to maintain my F-1 status and not violate it? As an international student or scholar in the US, it’s important that you understand the tax requirements of your visa and your filing obligations with the IRS. Sprintax is here to simplify nonresident Federal and State taxes. The Sprintax team will hold a presentation to answer any questions that you may have about filing taxes as a nonresident international student/scholar. As the University looks toward a new academic semester, the International Student & Scholar Services Office will officially transition into a new information management system, Terra Dotta Software (TDS). Beginning on January 18th, international students and scholars will be able to officially log on to their individualized profile in TDS. Users will complete several paperless tasks, from form completion to recommendation requests, in one central location. Such paperless re...quests include applying for Curricular Practical Training (CPT), Optional Practical Training (OPT), program extensions, transfer-out’s, requests for travel signatures and support letters. The site will also provide information on how to maintain your F-1 or J-1 status, travel, employment options, social security and driver’s license information, etc. Furthermore, new international students and scholars will be able to virtually check in with the ISSSO. The ISSSO will offer additional services to the international community, including e-mail reminders to complete specific tasks and optional alert communications through text messaging to smartphones. To log into the site please visit https://iss.stjohns.edu, then click on Login at the top right hand corner using your MySJU username and password. Then click on the home button, > site home, on the top left-hand side of the page to access the website. If you do not know how to log into MySJU please find information on how to do so here. The ISSSO will provide workshops on how to use Terra Dotta throughout the academic semester and will notify you of this via your SJU e-mail. Should you have any questions on how to use Terra Dotta or you cannot log in, please contact the ISSSO.
