Hudson Valley Stream Conservancy 30.01.2021

A bit late but allow me to share what an exciting and successful Sing Sing Kill cleanup day HVAS had on Saturday October 17th in collaboration with Green Ossining, the Village of Ossining and Riverkeeper! (Kill is an old Dutch word for stream). It was all under the umbrella of the Hudson-wide Riverkeeper Sweep event. We pulled at least a ton of trash, new and old, from the stream and embankments. It was the 5th year in a row on different stretches of the stream. See the ...photos and videos here! And please donate to any of our three nonprofits to support this critically important work. #riverkeeper Riverkeeper #Clearwater #streams #tributaries #ossining #stream #conservancy #rivers #pollution @streamconservancy @sloopclearwater NYSDEC See more

This video shows alewife in Weymouth, MA. More locally, Hudson Valley Arts and Science caught an alewife in the Hutchinson River at Mount Vernon. The first seen in the Hutch in over 40 years! The Hutchinson work was under a grant from the NY DEC. Thanks DEC!

Yesterday, 04/11/2019 we photographed an alewife (river herring) below the Wilsons Woods dam in Pelham. The first verified sighting in perhaps 300 years. We are... working on a NYS Dept. of Env. Conservation grant to design a fish ladder over the dam for alewife. They swim into fresh water streams to spawn in the spring and then go back out into the ocean. Their population has plummeted due to a combination of dams, over fishing and pollution. We're trying to get them back to their historic breeding grounds to rebound. Shown is an underwater image of the alewife, contrast and color enhanced to get the silhouette in very murky water. See more
