A great season of change is upon us. As fall 2020 approaches, temperatures drop and days shorten, it's really comforting and grounding to have a hot cup of ripe pu'erh in your hand that you can re-steep over and over again. At SOGC, we carry many types of pu'erh - raw or ripe, seasoned in mini oranges, fresh, aged, sticky rice, etc. Today we introduce an everyday, smooth, organic ripe pu'erh that you can keep re-steeping. At $5/oz, it's affordable and easy to mix with other ...herbs and flowers or to drink plain as you wish. Uncomplicated, simple & easy. May we suggest combining them with a few organic chrysanthemum flowers? It's a traditional favorite of many hongkongers, especially as an accompaniment to the traditional mooncakes served during a family celebration of Mid-Autumn Festival. The fermented pu'erh helps to soothe the digestive tract and provides a good source of probiotics to digest the heavy oils, sugar and cholesterol from the mooncakes. According to TCM, the addition of chrysanthemum flowers cools the body against the internal heat generated by consumption of the salted egg yolk. It's a match made in heaven!

NEW PRODUCT for #jasminetea lovers at #sunsorganicgarden featured in our IGTV video last week. The base tea is a high mountain green tea from #Zhejiang province. The #teabbuds are harvested in early spring (April) and then stored in a cool place until late summer when the best #jasmineflowers are harvested #Jasmine flowers start to bloom around May, but the blooms used for premium grades of jasmine tea are not harvested until August - October. The jasmine buds are harvested... closed, and at this point, the concentrations of essential oils in the flowers are at their highest. The harvested flowers open at night which is when the scenting process begins. Scenting the tea involved layering the tea between layers of Jasmine flowers in piles up to 20cm high. As the oxidation of the flowers releases heat and fragrance, the tea and flowers are mixed after a few hours to evenly disperse the heat and fragrance. Temperature control is very important in the tea scenting process and by morning, the flowers are separated from the tea to prevent any bitterness Premium jasmine teas are scented 5+ times and #jasminepearls undergo the step of being handrolled to lock the floral fragrance into the #tea Jasmine tea has been enjoyed since the Ming Dynasty and is a speciality of China. #chinatowntealady at #sunsorganicgarden in NYC shares her top brewing tips for making a nice sweet cup of Jasmine Pearl tea without a bitter aftertaste

This post was inspired by a gift of some beautiful handmade chocolates. Chocolate comes in many different flavors and intensities and tea is an excellent complement to the intense flavor sensation and a healthy companion to balance the sweet. The chocolates in the post above were a mix of handmade dark, milk and white chocolates in a variety of flavors. Our faves were the house dark and sea salt caramel (milk choc). We paired these sweet confections with the soft but wond...erfully fragrant Keemun black tea. It was the perfect partner in that it did not overpower the chocolate or drown out its flavor. Our Keemun is floral with orchid notes and hints of stone fruits and cocoa and stands up well to the chocolate. The black tea steeps to a beautifully intense reddish color and perfectly balances the sugar while never getting bitter or overly astringent. There is also the added benefit of aiding digestion, speeding up metabolism and providing some healthy polyphenols. Thanks to one of our supporters and friends we got to sample some handmade treats from a local NY artisan chocolatier near Chinatown (@swmsweets). Floating #tealeaves are represented throughout the pieces, imbuing a magical quality to the collection. The poster incorporates endearing details from the shop, including a hanging double luck Chinese knot, a Chinese soup spoon to measure out tea leaves, and ...an ornate cloisonne business card holder. The piece also depicts Sun’s favorite teas in each category and provides a snippet of history or background for each type of #camelliasinensis or #tisane. The colorful mug is not only a hand-illustrated artistic piece, but also provides practical information on suggested #teabrewing instructions.
