How is Sunshine adjusting to protect against COVID-19? We are closely watching all CDC and NYS DOH safety requirements and recommendations. Upon your first day of return, we will provide you with copies of the published guidelines we are following. Staff and children's temperatures will be taken before they enter the building. Those who have fever (100.4 or higher), cough or shortness of breath will remain out of care until they are fever-free for at least 72 hours and 7 da...Continue reading
Love the creativity and self-expression when invited to paint a pumpkin!
Overcoming some sensory hesitation! So brave!!!!
Yoga with Miss Jessie to calm those Election Day jitters. Okay... Maybe the staff needs the calming aspects today more so than the kiddos, but it doesn't hurt!
Low voter turn-out today, but pizza is the winner!!!
If anyone has a stash of plastic grocery bags they would like to get rid of, we'd gladly take them!!!!!

Happy Halloween!
Happy Halloween from all of us at Sunshine!
Please know that we are aware of the positive COVID cases in both Salem and Schuylerville School Districts. While we do have students and/or staff directly connected to those districts, we have no reason to believe that there is any exposure risk from these cases here at Sunshine. We remain vigilent in screening, sanitizing, and our awareness of safety procedures to limit any risk. If we become aware of a change in circumstances, we will notify families immediately.
Kaarina here. I'm going to be super real for a moment. Early child care and education is amazingly fulfilling. It is also extremely emotional and very draining. This year has been rough. For various reasons, yesterday was particularly difficult- we'll blame it on Halloween distraction, the full/blue moon, changes in the weather... Whatever. It emptied everyone's tanks. I went home, had an adult beverage and crashed into a lump on the couch. I went to bed feeling frustrated an...d uninspired. Today, I woke up and I remembered three things from yesterday... First, the beautiful, spontaneous, loving, pure and innocent shared dance between two of our students (we posted pictures here, but they don't capture the true wonder of the moment). They moved together as if they had been trained to. They gazed into each others eyes as they danced. Imagine a long-married 90-year-old couple deeply in love - that's what it felt like. And these two aren't typically best-buds. But they were in that moment. Second, when a non-walking infant rolled his ball out of reach, his walking classmate, unsolicited, stopped what she was doing, got his ball and returned it to him. His resulting smile was a tremendous expression of thanks. Third, a student was so tickled by her completed project (a ghost that pops out of a pumpkin and says BOO!) she was overcome by deep, belly shaking, full body laughs. Her laugh was more contagious than a yawn. Every child and adult in the room began laughing along with her - not a forced, half-hearted laugh. A real, soul-cleansing laugh. All of us. Needless to say, we had that ghost pop and Boo! over and over again. It was magical. I didn't wake up and reflect on the struggles of yesterday. I woke up and, without even meaning to, remembered those three precious moments. That is why I/we do what we do. Those snippets that happen each day are inspiring. They sustain us. Kids are joyful, kind, loving beings by nature. It is such an important lesson for adults to imitate and learn. May we all strive to be like children. The good will always outshine the not-so-good if we just let ourselves tap into our innate child-self. Be well. Stay safe. Dance. Be kind. Laugh.
Halloween antics! Or alternate description... Hitting kids in the face with donuts. Either way, the kids are happy and the adults get a few laughs while watching the game play out. It is all good!
