SUNY Cobleskill Dairy Farm 01.11.2020

What an amazing girl to be producing that much milk! The power of genetics, great feed and even better management make powerhouse cows. And she's over 9 years old! Congrats to Gogi and her owners, the Behnke family of Bur-Wall Holsteins in Brooklyn, Wisconsin. Check out the article on this historic event from Farm and Dairy. http://www.farmanddairy.com//holstein-sets-new/311308.html

Today, we celebrate! Steve Wilson, Market Manager for Market 11 of Dairy One presented Randy Meka and the SUNY Cobleskill Dairy Team with a plaque for 1st place in Fat Production for New York State in 2014. Congratulations to our herd girls and our wonderful workers who make this possible!

Very proud for two of our cows to receive Elite Performer Honors! They must classify 85 points or better, complete 3 lactations and have milk production in the top 1% of cows. Scoop, VG87 is a nationally recognized and Afon VG86 is a regional designee. Scoop has averaged 104.4 pounds of milk per day in her 3 complete lactations and Afon has averaged 105.8 pounds in her 3 lactations. It's a pleasure having these cows in our herd and amazing to have them perform at this level considering that they are milked and cared for by our many students every day.

An update on our first lactation Montbeliarde X Holstein cross. At 104 days in milk she gave 95 pounds of milk that tested 3.4%f and 2.8%p with a SCC of 47,000. Her projected ME lactation is over 28,000. Plus she bred right back and is confirmed pregnant to a Swedish Red service sire.

Also looking forward to calves from a Brown Swiss and an Ayrshire that are due soon that will accompany these nice Apple Crisp twin heifer calves.

So we didn't get a heifer calf but this Swedish Red bull calf is huge and looks cool :)

We've gone quite a while without getting any Ayrshire heifer calves; so we are very pleased with this January Bradock calf from Jayla. Jayla was a second place yearling at the NY Spring show. Hopefully Jayla and her calf can get out to the shows this summer!
