Alright folks, the time has come to start getting ready :)) Today will be my last day teaching at @ishtayoga before I take maternity leave. I feel torn about it, it really is hard for me to stop teaching, it’s something all that I love doing. But, I’m still eating ice cream, and enjoying my own practice so I still have many joys. But I am listening to my body and listening to my baby, and I really want to slow down and let myself enter a receptive state. ... It’s something many of us are hearing and feeling in these shorter days, as we get closer to #solstice and there is less and less light each day. We are in a movement to a balance. This is what solstice is. And then from the 21st of December there will be more and more light. If you would like to make it to class today - you have an intention to explore fertility, pregnancy or postpartum yoga - you can register at @ishtayoga. Class meets 3-4pm EST. If you can’t make it, but you are interested in any of these topics I am still doing sessions and I would love to support your journey around birth and becoming a mom Ana a dad. PM me if you’re interested. Love you! #pregnantyogi #prenatalyoga #fertility #pregnancyyoga #yoga #maternityleave #icecream #receptive #solstice #darkness #light #slowdown #baby

When the mind is pure, joy follows like a shadow that never leaves. - Buddha The amazing gift of regular practice is that we build new grooves into our set ways. The new grooves when repeated daily, time and time again, with dedication, at some point start to bring us in new directions. ... At first these new places we visit may be for short stays. A momentary smile in a time of challenge. These small victories are only the beginning of forging a new way and a new path to our joy and pure mind. As we continue our practice, returning again and again to our inner space, our checking in, our finding balance, discovering what is our truth - we can take longer journeys into this new land of joy and connection. As we practice over years, decades, and eventually a lifetime, some old grooves become roads we rarely travel on. But if we are lucky - very lucky - and true - with our years, decades and lifetimes of practicing - we will continue to find something interesting that we have not seen before, at least not in the way that we see it today. May your practice be so fruitful. Hope to see you today on your mat at 3pm EST for Yin, Breathe, and Restore @ishtayoga , teaching for my teacher @wendynewtonyoga for 2 more weeks. #lucky #yoga #interesting #space #returning #smallvictories #yogateacher #yogastudent -#buddha #Inspo #inspiringquotes #ishtayoga #neuroplasticity #ishtayoga

How to stop scrolling One of the challenges of this moment and of modern life is learning to calm down and disengage from external input. Not so long, we had less mobile distractions, and we had different expectations for our entertainment. ... Now it’s easy to find yourself if a pleasure hole of instagram, YouTube, different apps, and find yourself hours later having been sucked into your device for hours. These experiences have become all too common for us. The tricky thing is learning to disengage. One of the Ayurvedic fixes for this is learning to pause. It doesn’t even matter how you do this, whether it’s while doing a yoga pose or not. Kumbaka is a practice of learning to pause with the breath. This can be done as a practice in the shower, upon waking and in bed, or in nature - really anywhere. You start by noticing the breath, notice where you are feeling the breath. And follow your breath rhythms. As you watch the repetition of the breath you may notice small pauses that happen at the tops of the inhale and the bottom of the exhale. As you notice the pause, give yourself a chance to dwell in it. As you do, and as you practice this, something will start to change for you. As you relate to entertainment and technology, you may see shifts in your scrolling habits. Experiment with it. Let me know what you think! Class today is at 3pm. Come check out how we will explore pausing as it relates to the nervous system and pregnancy @ishtayofa #prenatalyoga #yoga #breathwork #entertainment #device #mobile #howtostopscrolling #instagram #distraction #nature

Breathing room In the second trimester baby starts to moves up as the uterus expands into the rib cage. This directly affects many pregnant women’s ability to breathe - as our lung space literally gets filled with our growing fetus. ... Side leaning and other lateral flexion exercises help to create more space between the intercostal muscles so that the lungs can get more bandwidth as you breath. Energetically, the lungs relate to the air element - which is elementally related to the mind, or our thoughts. When we work with our breath and balance our lungs we can directly shift our thoughts, and create more balance in our emotions. One of the reasons why Prenatal ISHTA Yoga is such a powerful way to prepare your body for birth and motherhood is that we work to balance the denser as well as the subtler parts of us. Exercise is very important to do during pregnancy. But because our bodies our changing and because mothers are literally hosts for the embodiment of souls to the earth plane, our practice must change in ways that honor and resonate with this role and what we are supporting. In class today we use different Breathwork techniques or Pranayama to balance the mind and the emotions. Class meets at 3PM EST @ishtayoga . Please join us, and pass this on to a friend who you believe can benefit from such a practice. One of the great gifts and deep joys of my life is being in and building a partnership with this man: @jakilevy .The man I married on March 29, 2020. One of the themes that has been coming up in my life in general right now is that when I feel good, everything turns out alright. No matter what. But its my job to feel good. No one else’s job to make me feel good. This is both a bio-chemical truth and a psychological reality. But it's not something I always knew or unders...tood very well. I was very obsessed with learning about love, ways to love, how to be loved, how to be a good lover, and any iteration of the love juice I could find or think of. I thought love was just the answer, but I didn't really understand how to find it inside of myself. I spent years studying this and feeling lots of feelings - getting caught in cycles of #unrequitedlove - #whatswrongwithme - #wtfisthis - all leading to a big #whenyouknowbetteryoudobetter Reflecting on the most important things I learned in my 21 years and 10 months of dating, I find this list (check the link in my bio to read the list). #ilove #iloveyou #love #loveyou #lover #lovewins #dating #adventuresindating #mustache #hipster
