"Christmas is most truly Christmas when we celebrate it by giving the light of love to those who need it most." - Ruth Carter Stapleton
Starting as a private and retiring as a brigadier general, Charles Elwood Yeager (or Chuck as the world knew him) flew a P-51 in WWII and commanded air wings in the Vietnam War. But he is best known for being the first human to break the sound barrier in level flight in a Bell X-1 in 1947. Chuck Yeager died on December 7, 2020 at the age of 97. He is survived by his wife and 4 children. Fly high brave sir. We salute you.
Frances W. Preshur November 23, 1930 ~ December 6, 2020 Frances W. Preshur, 90, of Nichols passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020 at Sayre Personal Care Home. Fran was born on November 23, 1930 in Owego the daughter of David and Catherine Welch. She was a graduate of Owego High School class of 1948. For many years Fran and her husband David owned and operated Preshur Insurance Company in Nichols. A business which started in their home and moved to Main Street in Nichols.... Fran was a member of the Nichols Presbyterian Church and the Nichols Ro-ki Club. Following retirement, she and David enjoyed traveling and visiting with family. She was preceded in death, by her husband of 59 years, David L. Preshur, Sr., on July 4, 2010, and is survived by her four children: Linda Keene, David L. Preshur, Jr., Michael Preshur and Christine Miller; her grandchildren: Stacy, Kelly, Holly, Lauren, Amanada, Catherine, Victoria, Zechariah, Brett, Elijah, Geoffrey and Ryan; twelve great grandchildren and her brother, David Welch. Due to our current health concerns and safety of those who would come to celebrate Fran’s life, a service will be held in the spring to lay her to rest in the Nichols Cemetery. During these challenging times for our country and our community, we urge family and friends to share a message of sympathy on line at her guest book at www.sutfinfuneralchapel.com See more
Today is the 79th Anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. We honor and remember the 2,403 Americans who died that day.
The 2nd Sunday of Advent: Peace
Thank you to all who came out tonight to share in our Hospice tree lighting and Christmas caroling around the village. Thanks to the Nichols Fire Department for guiding us to our stops, to Sallie’s Country Kitchen, Sopranos Market and Jodi Olive for cookies. Also thanks to our Santa and those who gave out candy canes and treats to all of us. We really have a wonderful community we live in!
