Today is Election Day! Which means it's the FINAL day to participate in our "Vote with a Coat" drive! As you make your way to the polls today, please consider dropping off a new or gently-used coat to our St. Vincent de Paul-Huntington Thrift Store, our St. Vincent de Paul - Garden City Park Thrift Store, any BNB Bank location, Lorraine Gregory Communications or Blue Point Brewing. Pictured below is Syke of 106.1 BLI, who braved the freezing cold and wind atop the Blue Point "Bar Boat" yesterday to raise awareness of our campaign. Thanks to everyone at BLI and 102.3 WBAB for partnering with us on this special initiative.

We at SVDPLI would like to give a special shoutout to Brendan Murray of Boy Scout Troop 474 for choosing our St. Anthony of Padua (East Northport) Conference as the beneficiary of his Eagle Scout Project! Brendan ran the Back to School Supply Drive," an annual collection for the local children whose families rely on the SVDP food pantry for their many needs. Through the generosity of St. Anthony of Padua parishioners and local businesses, the collection has provided local c...hildren with the necessary supplies for many years. In addition to running this regularly scheduled drive, Brendan ran a car wash to raise money to purchase 72 lunch boxes for elementary school children and 70 padlocks for secondary students to include with the school supplies. He also purchased some school supplies that had not been donated in time to distribute them to the children at the end of August. Mr. Murray was invited to attend the monthly meeting of The Society of Saint Vincent DePaul on October 20, 2020 where he was thanked by the members both for his service and his generous donation of $900.00, which was left over from his fund raising. The members estimated that the value of the school supplies he collected exceeded $7,000 and noted that it was the largest collection that they had ever seen! In total, his project provided school supplies to 142 elementary and secondary school students in the East Northport community. Pictured below is Brendan with the wonderful Vincentians from the St. Anthony of Padua Conference who helped him, Maureen Rogers and Jo Kerrigan.

Were you one of the many people who used your free time in quarantine to clean out your closet? Are you finding that you have more shoes than you know what to do with? We at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Long Island are so grateful to be the beneficiary of a local Eagle Scout Project, and we encourage you to get involved! This upcoming Saturday, October 24th and Sunday, October 25th, William Capone of Boy Scout Troup 299 will be collecting new and gently-used shoes outsi...de of the masses at St. Dominic RC Church of Oyster Bay, NY (93 Anstice St, Oyster Bay, NY 11771). From there, they will be distributed to our thrift stores, where they will then be given to families in need, or the money earned from sales will go directly to help them get back on their feet. William has been working tremendously hard on this project for months, and despite the COVID-19 crisis creating unique challenges along the way, he persevered through it and found a way to make his goal a reality. Let's give it up for William!
