The school garden has been expanded and planted!!! Last week, six new garden beds were added to the school garden for 14 beds total. After 3 days of building, mulching and adding fresh compost soil, the vegetables were planted in the garden for another (hopefully) successful harvest season. All vegetables harvested will go to the school cafeteria for meals, faculty and staff of SVE and we are hoping to have a small farm stand for the community to enjoy the fresh produce as w...ell. We will keep you all posted as the summer goes along as to when/where the farm stand will be. Be sure to drive by and admire the veggies as they grow!

Oswegatchie Educational Center is an FFA members getaway, whether it’s in the summer or the winter. SVE FFA members have attended Oswegatchie’s Summer Camp program and Winter Weekend. Every year, Oswegatchie hosts a fundraiser called the Duck Race! The Duck Race is a fundraiser that benefits both FFA chapters and Oswegatchie. For every $5 duck, a school gets credit for selling, Oswegatchie will give that school 50% of that money back as "Duck Bucks". Duck Bucks can be used a...nytime in the next 12 months for any purchases made at Oswegatchie. This includes summer camp fees and winter weekends. This summer, about 13 SVE FFA members will attend Summer Camp at Oswegatchie and they need your help! Strawberries come today!!! If you ordered strawberries, you can pick up at the SVE high school (out back) between 3-4:30 today or 2:30-3:30 tomorrow. If you would like to buy strawberries and missed the deadline, don’t worry, you can purchase them anytime this week on a first come first serve basis. ... Thank you for your support!

Exciting things happening in the SVE Ag Program! Yesterday, the Horticulture class tapped the 10 maple trees at the front of the school. We got a total of 20 taps in the trees. It was the perfect day to tap, as the sap started flowing immediately. The students were very excited to see the sap and were eager to get out today to check the buckets. Today, we collected 5 gallons of sap and will beginning boiling on Monday. ... Did you know, it takes roughly 40 gallons of sap to make one gallon of syrup? It will be a small production for us this year, but the students are ready to learn about maple production! Be ready for more pictures throughout the process.

District 7 LDE’s are in the books! Thank you to all of our SVE community members for coming out and assisting with the success of hosting the event today! SVE FFA members did a fantastic job competing in their contests! The results are as follows and the students who placed will be moving on to the Sub-State competitions at Indian River Central School on March 14th!! Laurin competed in Employment Skills and made it onto the final round, but unfortunately did not place and w...ill not be moving on! We are so proud of her for making it so far in such a tough contest! Keili placed 2nd in Sr. Creed and 4th in Sr. People in Agriculture. Claire placed 2nd in Sr. People in Agriculture. Tristyn placed 1st in Sr. People in Agriculture. Roni placed 3rd in Jr. Prepared Public Speaking. Sydnee placed 1st in Jr. Prepared Public Speaking. A lot of work still needs to be done before the next contests! Thank you to all the schools who attended the event today and we want to congratulate all of the competitors that are moving on!
