Baby birds are now arriving!#bluejays#adorable#nature
This little loon was successfully rehabbed and released today, now he can continue his migration back to the ARCTIC! Good luck!!!! Red-Throated Loon is found throughout the Northern Hemisphere. They live mainly along the water and will very seldom be on land. This is a bird that takes part in seasonal migration. They do so for mating though and not to get to warmer climates. In fact, they thrive in the Arctic locations. They tend to stay very close to the shoreline when they migrate. The feet on the Red-Throated Loon are located very far back so they can’t walk on land. They do cover ground though after breeding to get to the water by pushing with their feet and moving along their breast. They are able to take off in flight by land though if they are scared. They are the only species of Loon that is able to do this.

Horned Grebe movie
BIRDS ARE DROPPING FROM THE SKIES! Exhausted, starving and cold!!!! 2 Horned Grebes are our newest patients. They were found in 2 different backyard locations. If you notice their back legs, they are located towards the rear of their bodies. This makes it impossible for them to walk on the land. We will be keeping these little guys until the deep freeze is over.
Thank you so much Dr G from Best Friends Veterinary Care Mrs. opossum is recovering nicely after her tail removal surgery. This poor possum was rescued last week from a private home in Smithtown, New York She was suffering from frostbite and was literally starving to death. She will be released once this deep freeze is over.
DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE WILDLIFE THIS WINTER! Feed the birds - put out high energy foods like fat balls and seeds, and provide fresh clean water. Remember, once you start feeding them; keep supplies topped up so they don’t burn energy coming to your garden only to be disappointed. Let your garden go a bit wild - immaculately tidy gardens with trimmed grass and no debris provide little shelter or food for wildlife. Unruly ivy and long grass provide countless nesting places for insects, beetles, spiders and more - also food for some garden visitors. Provide shelter - piles of leaves and other garden litter can provide much needed cover for small critters.
New at Sweetbriar!! Come visit our woodland fairy village, check in at the front desk and begin on an adventure.
