Precious little squish As many of you know, I specialize in newborn portraits and I get this question all the time, When is the best time to shoot? I prefer to photograph newborns within the first 14 days post birth. This is when your baby is still so sleepy and bendy and isn’t fully aware they’re no longer in the womb. After this timeframe, they start to wake up a bit more and realize they have arms and legs so they’re wiggly,so there’s a higher chance they’ll bust out o...f their warm, cozy swaddle I wrap them in. This is also when mamas are figuring out feeding which is a process in itself especially when colic is present. It’s usually in the second week, they start to shed their lizard skin so they can be peely and yes acne is very common. I say all of this lightly because every baby is truly different but in my experience they all usually respond very well to a warm space, a snug swaddle and a white noise machine + butt pats go a long way. Which is when you think about, I’m ultimately recreating the environment they were so comfy in. After I explain all of the above, I’ll always add that it’s totally okay if the newborn session doesn’t take place within this timeframe. Not every mama is ready to shoot within the first two weeks and I can absolutely photograph a newborn baby whenever everyone is ready! I just think it’s important to understand that the super bendy, sleepy snuggly poses (especially solo shots) are much more successful the younger the baby is. If I’m photographing a newborn who is closer to a month old, I will encourage the parents and siblings to be in the photos as well because if your baby wants to be close to you, then that’s what we do! My goal is to photograph you and your baby in a calm, relaxed environment. So it’s really important to be aware of all of this so you know what to expect! Questions? Comments? Advice lol comment below or send me a message
