Syracuse NY Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints News 01.11.2020

I am looking forward to learning from our Church leaders in the October general conference. I especially love to hear each of my apostolic associates teach, tes...tify, and bear his special witness of the name of Christ. Because of the restrictions during the pandemic, the way we participate in conference temporarily may have changed, but the opportunity to strengthen our faith in Jesus Christ remains constant and powerful! The Savior declared, Whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same (Doctrine and Covenants 1:38). I invite you to diligently and specifically prepare to hear and heed the eternal truths taught by the Lord’s authorized representatives during this general conference. As you do so, I promise your faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ will be fortified, and you will receive spiritual guidance and protection for your specific circumstances and needs.

Many students are headed back to school this week either online or in person. No matter what your circumstances this year, you can be an example of kindness and love to others, just like the young woman in this video. https://youtu.be/xvpY4Qg0mBg

It can be difficult to feel love for your fellow men at this time of division and political strife. But finding opportunities to serve in your community can help you feel the love of Christ for others. Here is one great opportunity from a local organization: Help spark joy in a senior's life through a personalized letter! "With Love" Pen Pal Project is an InterFaith Works, One to One program that aims to connect volunteers with seniors living in nursing home facilities who would benefit from a social connection during the pandemic. Contact Toma Tracy, [email protected] to find out how to get started!"

A special single adult fireside will be presented virtually this Sunday May 3rd at 6pm. Our speakers are going to be Jack R. Christianson and his wife, Melanie. They have chosen to address us on the topic of "Everyday power from the Book of Mormon." Many of you may remember the Christiansons; Jack served as the Mission President for the New York Rochester Mission a few years back. Brother Christianson, both before and after serving in the area, is known as a renowned speaker, author, and gospel scholar. It is a pleasure to get to have them address us. If you would like to join the fireside, please contact your local congregation leader for the meeting link.

A message from our prophet and his presidency members: Dear Brothers and Sisters, We gratefully acknowledge those who have joined with us in prayers and fasting for Heaven's help to address the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. We know that God will hear and answer our prayers. We have been taught to be "anxiously engaged" in relieving suffering and caring for those in need (see Doctrine and Covenants 58:27).... To that end, we are joining with other organizations around the world to address specific needs related to the pandemic. For example, our Beehive Clothing facilities in Brazil, Mexico, the Philippines, Paraguay, and Utah are temporarily shifting their operations from the manufacture of religious clothing to the sewing of masks and gowns needed by local health care professionals and communities. In Utah, the Relief Society is leading our participation in a partnership between Latter-day Saint Charities, Intermountain Healthcare, and University of Utah Health. Church members, in their homes, will help sew 5 million clinical face masks, which will be donated to healthcare workers. To date, we have approved over 110 COVID-19 relief projects in 57 countries. Most of these are done with trusted partners from humanitarian agencies, health ministries and hospitals, which allows us to use our resourcesincluding food, hygiene products, personal protective equipment, medical equipment, cash and other commoditiesin places where they can do the most good. We invite our members to participate in these and other relief projects in their areas and communities as opportunities arise and as local government directives and personal circumstances allow. May we be blessed in our efforts to care for others and provide hope and help to our Heavenly Father's children everywhere. Sincerely yours, The First Presidency The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
