We are just 1 day away from the Commitment March in Washington DC convened by Reverend Al Sharpton and Martin Luther King, III. Our intergenerational day of action will demonstrate our commitment to fighting for policing and criminal justice. The Commitment March will take place on August 28th, 2020 - the 57th anniversary of the historical March on Washington, where Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech. Please read the following information regardi...ng the Commitment March. March Entry: Crowds will be directed to 17th St., NW, to begin the process for admittance at our general entrance. To participate, each person must receive a NAN branded neon green wristband and a ticket. To receive a wristband and ticket, each person must have their temperature checked, must wear or receive a face mask, gloves (optional), and hand sanitizer from our volunteers, lined up along 17th in between each distribution center. Due to very limited seating, if you are visually impaired or require wheelchair service please email immediately [email protected] for accommodations. No Justice No Peace! I want to assure you that our collective groups SPAARC are pushing our agenda...however to be clear we believe that instead of SRO's in schools we stand our ground and demand that full funding from the drastic reduction in the SPD budget goes to programs with proven outcomes in reducing violence, programs that are on the ground doing the work to reduce and end violence in the community and in our schools. These programs provide family advocacy as are ass...isting with mental health issues and much more... I want to be clear these programs are Street Addiction, Team Angel, SNUG, GLYF, 100 Black Men, Brandon Hollie of Falk College, Mothers Against Gun Violence, Trauma Response, Urban Delights SWCLF Jubilee Homes, OG Against Violence, Let Me Be Great Again 44, Well of Hope Outreach,....to name a few that have outcome based results. We are not interested in funding going to those (Status Quo Organizations)those programsthat "normally" get full funding or over funding for doing absolutely nothing except for getting rich off money intended for black and brown children in our schools and in our community! If I left out any programs that have proven strategies for reducing violence in the schools let us know... Are you aware of Level of staff in schools that are identified as law enforcement by the SCSD its overwhelming: Hall Monitor - provides security in the hallway, may escort students to and from the office for disciplinary purposes. Sentry's /Security Guard SRO/SIRP Police The above list comprises the SCSD's Department of Public Safety. Remove SRO's! Replace them with proven strategies and community organizations that are on the ground.
