Excited to be working with LEO of this caliber: About John Bailie ... Mr. Bailie, recently returned to the Western New York area after a highly satisfying federal and local level law enforcement career while residing in New York City and Virginia. Mr. Bailie is a proud graduate of the Hamburg Central School system and a graduate of both Hilbert College and Buffalo State College, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice. During his college years, Mr. Bailie began training in the martial arts circa 1989 in Kenpo Karate, at American Self Defense Studios, known in W.N.Y at that time as a no-nonsense martial arts training studio. Shortly after that, he began training in Jeet Kune Do Concepts and many forms of the Filipino martial arts, in which he has earned and been awarded several Ranks. Mr. Bailie has had the opportunity to attend and host seminars over the years while spending time training one on one with some of the Filipino Martial Arts community's noteworthy Instructors. He is a Full Instructor under Sigung Paul Vunak, a lifelong Senior Student/Full Instructor of the World Famous Jeet Kune Do & Filipino Martial Arts Guro Dan Inosanto. Besides that of being the Protege' of the late Martial Arts Legend and Movie Star Bruce Lee, Guro Inosanto is an Ambassador of the Martial Arts Community as a whole. Mr. Bailie is the Western New York area representative for Sigung Vunak's Progressive Fighting Systems. Sigung Vunak's famous R.A.T. (Rapid Assualt Tactics) program has been taught to various Special Operation Units within the Military & Law Enforcement community over the years including "Seal Team Six" back in the late 1980's. Mr. Bailie also was promoted to the rank of 1st Degree Black Sash "Sifu" in the "Original Oakland Era" Jeet Kune Do program taught by Professor Gary Dill. Professor Dill himself is a highly acclaimed and famous Martial Art Author & Instructor. Prof. Dill is a prior Law Enforcement Officer on both the Federal and State level and Vietnam era Veteran. Prof. Dill received his Jeet Kune Do training under the direct supervision of Sifu James Y. Lee. Sifu James Y. Lee was one of only three handpicked Instructors by the late Bruce Lee himself to teach Jeet Kune Do before Bruce Lee's untimely passing in July 1973. Mr. Bailie continues to train and stay updated as much as possible to increase his knowledge and experience in various self-preservation, self-perfection and self-reliance skills including Empty Hand & Armed Combatives, Wilderness Survival Skills, First Aid Skills and is currently a Certified NRA Firearms Instructor. I got my job in the Buffalo News, as Mr. Bailie likes to tell people when he is asked just how he got started in his Law Enforcement career. "I just so happened to see an ad in the Buffalo News employment section for Federal Police Officers. The hiring was related to the then current Terrorism Trial going in New York City, for the first World Trade Center bombing. I met with the local Special Agent, who was the point of contact here in the Buffalo Field Office, for the Federal Protective Service. The Agent and I talked briefly at his office and said I was hired. I then jumped on a plane headed for the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Georgia along with one other candidate selected from Upstate New York." Working for the C.I.A. After his stint in NYC, Mr. Bailie was recruited by the Central Intelligence Agency. They selected him among a highly competitive candidate pool to attend the highly coveted training program known years ago as the Protective Operations Cadre, today it is known as the Global Response Staff. Specialized training opportunities and recognition for his knowledge, physical skills, abilities, and dedication to the trade-craft continued in the years ahead. Mr. Bailie was selected to attend various specialized defensive tactics and weapon courses over his law enforcement career. These specialized courses included but were not limited to such topics as Mental Preparation for Armed Encounters taught by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms & Explosives, Officer Safety & Survival Tactics at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, Street Crimes and Undercover Operation courses and the like on both the Federal and local level. Mr. Bailie has been inspired by many of the knowledgeable and highly skilled instructors he had the opportunity to learn from over the years. One Instructor that comes to mind early on in his law enforcement instructor training is that of Dave Young, who was working for Defense Technology-Federal Laboratory. Dave Young presented one of the most creative, physically demanding, combative and cutting edge Instructor Courses on Ground Defense, in comparison to the G.R.A.P.P.L.E (Gracie Ju-Jitsu fame) program which was the standard program being taught in the law enforcement community back in the early 2000’s. Mr. Bailie is especially proud of being the only local law enforcement instructor to be approved to attend and graduate from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Defensive Tactics Instructor Course in Quantico, VA. He was given the time to teach a block of instruction to fellow Agents on the Big Guns within the Close Quarter Combatives section of the week long training. Mr. Bailie demonstrated and explained utilizing such strikes as Headbutts, Knees, and Elbows to shut down your assailant in a timely fashion. Over his law enforcement career, Mr. Bailie has had the opportunity to attend The Bulletproof Mind: Mental Preparation for Combat lecture/presentation by (Ret.) Lt. Col. Dave Grossman. Who is an internationally recognized scholar, author, soldier, and lecturer who is one of the world's foremost experts in the field of human aggression and the roots of violence and violent crime. Lt. Col. Grossman is truly an inspiration to all Professional and Civilian Sheepdogs alike. Since 2008 Mr. Bailie, a Virginia Dept. of Criminal Justices Services Instructor, has been teaching at the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Academy as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Defensive Tactics and Officer Safety & Survival Tactics. Most recently Mr. Bailie had the honor of working as an Adjunct Instructor and Professional Force on Force Role Player, at Team Crucible, LLC in Fredericksburg, Virginia. He takes great pride in supporting and assisting the Staff Instructors who deliver some of the highest quality level training available to government intelligence agency personnel, various specialized military units, Tier One Operators and NGO's to date. Team Crucible, LLC Team Crucible, LLC was founded by highly sought after and famed High-Risk Environment/Combatives Instructor Kelly McCann. While at Crucible, Mr. Bailie assisted in the creation and instruction of the first ever documented training program known as the Undercover Officer Survival Course. This course covered the gamete of combative skill sets needed to operate in an undercover capacity in the violent world of Vice & Narcotic Investigations. The tag line often thrown around by people these days of having a "sound Mind, Body and Spirit is a critical one Mr. Bailie does not take lightly. He knows firsthand how the rigors of working within the toxic environment of being a First Responder can be on the Modern Day Professional Sheepdog. Mr. Bailie strives to stay in the best physical shape possible he is capable of, citing that you are of absolutely no use to a team member, employer, spouse or family member, if you are not both physically and mentally fit. Mr. Bailie received the Physical Fitness Award while attending the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, Georgia. Mr. Bailie always acknowledges his inspiration and daily commitment to give an 110% while training came from P.T. Instructor (Agent Wells) who was assigned to Mr. Bailie's class known as 8PT-Bravo.
