A thought on titular authority: Titular authority, at the root, is the power derived from the possession of a title. Conferring a title on someone who may not ...possess the biblical authority of that title, or who does not have the spiritual gift that accompanies that title, has created many problems in the church. Even more disastrous are the hearts of the men and women who, once infected by this pathos, get hurt and/or hurt others. I am a huge supporter of the biblical mandate of the five fold ministry structure, but I am deeply concerned as to the operations of these offices in our practice of ministry. It seems to me that many have forgotten that governments (church authority) are still regulators in the release of offices in the church. Someone can be gifted but if they are not commissioned by the church body they have no authorization to function. Even, Paul, the apostle submitted to this kingdom governing standard. It seems to me today that every Tom, Dick and Harry, who feels some anointing automatically becomes a prophet, apostle, evangelist, pastor or teacher. The desire to have the praise of men have drove men mad! Apostle? Prophet? My God, these are extremely high callings! Do we know what we are doing? Who confers an office on someone? When it is conferred, where is the humility. Business cards are printed with Apostle so and so before the baptism water has dried. Are we joking?! Every apostle of Jesus died preaching. Our modern day so called apostles are getting rich. Prophets of old suffered greatly, our modern day prophets are famous! With sin abounding more and more in the church and in the world, the prophets are only prophecies good, favour, prosparity, riches, fame. Where are prophets that decry judgment? Doom? Warning? Contrary to many, those messages are just as much the blessing of God as the ones that are favourable to our ears. Jonah spoke repent to a city doomed, and it save them. People of God let us stop praising these self seeking counterfeit apostles, who are not apostles, prophets who are not prophets. Stop running to all these services to hear a word from the Prophet! They prophecy lies, and never speak what God has said. Does this mean their are no prophets - hardly. God will never allow the perversion of a generation to stop His ordained purposes. How will you know who is who? There are some simple but profound signs. 1. They will never if ever call themselves these names. If they do it is not for self promotion. 2. The words they speak MUST align with The Lord's word. If they say something is going to happen, watch for it. If it doesn't come to pass, they are false. 3. Who ordained them, how did they get the title? Some will say, no man gave me this, God called me, bull! Hands must be layed. These people must be accountable to someone, some group of leaders who recognize the gift. And I am not talking about some organization that gives certificates online if you can pay the fee. The first century apostles reported back to Jerusalem. 4. Watch their attitude towards money. There are preachers that only go to big churches, the offering is bigger. Some even have you deposit money before they come. They ask for 5star hotels, demand all kinds of stuff. They see the church as a way to merchandise the saints. Let's pray for real anointed God seeking men and women of God. Who are more interested in decreasing that Jesus may increase.
