Congratulations to our newest Takenouchi Hangan Ryu Matsuno Crandall Intermediate grade student, Shane, who passed his testing and was presented with his certificate by Headmaster Crandall at today's class and batto cutting practice.

Thanks to all of the students and instructors who helped at today's annual cleaning day. The Iaido students painted the basement walls and floor. The parking lo...t was swept and shoveled around the entire building. Inside the equipment was washed, floors vacuumed and carpet cleaner, windows and baseboards washed, 7 bathrooms emptied and scrubbed, repairs made, and much more. On October 15, 2017, students ages 5-80 demonstrated the Pink Belt Kata at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Event in Utica, NY. During the past 5 month...s our students have been earning their pink belts. They did this to raise awareness regarding cancer in our community. To earn their pink belt, they had to volunteer at a cancer event, take a research exam to become more knowledgeable, write an article, or take some other initiative. This was done in conjunction with the American Cancer Society. More than 115 of our students earned their pink belt and learned the pink belt kata. The Pink Belt Kata combined traditional martial arts techniques with American Sign Language and verbal statements with the core concept being that through communication a group can come together to defeat cancer.
