You may notice some new road signs on Pillar Point. Over the summer members spent a Sunday walking and measuring all the fire roads. We worked along side the Town of Brownville Highway and Jefferson County Highway departments to get new signs made up and installed that include the lengths of the roads. This will help in planning for any emergencies that may arise on these roads. Thank you for everyone that helped during this process.

Shortly before 5:30AM on Saturday February 8th, Town of Brownville and Glen Park Fire Departments were alerted to a structure fire on Evans Road in the Town of Hounsfield. While en route, Deputy Chief Heise could visibly see the working fire from State Route 12F, and requested Sackets Harbor to respond to the scene with engines, tankers, and manpower. Deputy Chief Heise arrived to find a fully engulfed barn fire and established a command post in the driveway of the residence.... 7-1-1 (Captain Young) arrived first due with his crew, and began deploying multiple attack lines to begin fire suppression. 7-1-3 (Captain Loveland) arrived second due and had his crew assist 7-1-1. Glen Park 23-1-2 and 23-5-1 arrived on scene and began deploying attack lines from their engine to protect the neighboring exposure. Mutual aid was then requested from Chaumont and Town of Watertown with manpower and tankers to the scene. Assistant Chiefs Gilchrist and Fiorentino assisted each other with fire ground operations. 7-4-2 (Captain Lalone) and 7-6-3 (FF Calhoun) established a fill site at State Route 12F and Evans Road for tanker fill up. The fire was deemed under control within an hour of dispatch. Due to the extreme cold temperatures, multiple tankers were freezing throughout operations, causing more mutual aid tankers to be requested from Three Mile Bay, Pamelia, and North Pole.
